The Twilight zone.

WTF happened to my post?

Oh well - I was just saying that I have got into bagels for office lunch and was asking for some recommendations on fillings as they are more of a US thing now. I love smoked salmon horseradish and soft cheese - what else is good?

I'll skip exlax in my bagels - thanks all the same Big Buddy.

Use your imagination, LPD. Bagels go well with sweet or savory. Nearly anything you would use on toast or on a sandwich would be good on a bagel.

I like to make my own bagels, by the way, usually plain or onion.

Mmmm, bagels I love them and have a few favorite shmears as well as sandwich fillings.

For breakfast or snacking
toasted everything bagel w/plain cream cheese or neufchatel cheese
plain bagel toasted with cream cheese & grape jelly
toasted cinnamon raisin bagel w/strawberry or plain cream cheese
toasted egg bagel w/ butter

Fillings for lunch or brunch
chicken salad
PB&J
cream cheese & grape jelly

For some reason I like my morning bagel to be toasted, but for lunch not so much.

Thanks.

PB&J - is that peanut butter and Jam? (jelly sorry)

I am a savoury and spicey man.
Yes, PB&J is peanut butter and jam.
If you are a savoury man (?), one of the best toppers for breakfast is cream cheese with smoked salmon and capers. Oh, and NJQT's suggestion of chicken salad is also excellent, especially for a mid-day meal! Onion bagels RULE!

Bagel margherita, eh? Next time you come to visit, MB, I'll have bagels instead of plain wheat rolls waiting for you...

You've great baking skills, DC. Those rolls were scrumptious. Just what I needed for sustenance on the drive home that morning....

So the comedian from Brooklyn is bombing hard at a southern venue. Frustrated, he asks the audience, "Does anyone here even know what a bagel is?"

A hand goes up in the back, "Yup, that's a huntin' dog."

I usually like my bagels plain! I have, on occasion, put regular cream cheese on them. And, sometimes, melted butter. I also like bagels that have shredded cheese baked onto them. Those are very good! Other than that, I usually take 'em plain.
