U.S. automakers aren't exactly innovators though...

But when they do innovate, its real, technological innovation, not ways to skirt regulations, or move management teams to different states to bend laws, or any of the other great "innovations" of banks.

There were a lot more republicans than democrats who voted against it...but if even 1/2 of those dems who voted nay whould have voted yay it would have passed...we need this bill to pass man. I'd rather pay $2300 now as opposed to not being able to get loans for the next 5 years
Hell NO!!! I'm not paying $2300--they will have to pry it from my cold dead fingers---Did you read the details--about the wage cap for the executives---well that only applies to NEW employees. The bastards that screwed everything are still going to get the same multimillion dollar pay checks and bonuses. DOES THAT SOUND good to you??? HELL NO!! They can all rot in hell---which is where they are going anyhow.:mad:

Yeap, Pelosi shit the bed. I just heard her "speech" on CSPAN. She basically got up in front of congress and rubbed Bush's nose in shit for 10 mins and blamed everything on the GOP.

I'm a Dem and I'm appalled. I am outraged that at the most critical time in my lifetime, she stood up there and railed against a party that clearly Dems share culpability with.

Of course they are. The government's own accounting office, the GAO, has been all over Congress for spending like this.

Essentially it has been a game of musical chairs, each pol hoping the bottom won't fall out on his watch. What are we left with? Finger pointing! What else do expect from politicians?

Alan Greenspan saw this coming. This is why he stepped down while the getting was good. As Greenspan famously said, quoting Louis XV, "Après moi, le déluge."

If the bailouts pass, then it will likely do little to stave off the inevitable collapse. Markets cannot be artificially supported indefinitely. We'd be throwing our already mediocre money after bad.

Yup. It's been denied...can't blame republicans because there were 94 dems who voted against it. O, ya, did anyone else hear that automakers were given $50 billion yesterday? WTF is going on in Washington? Fellow citizens, democrats especially, need I remind you why we have a right to bear arms? It's time for a revolution. :unitedstates::biggrin1:

Sleazy... but I would rather it go to the auto industry, if it is used to make more fuel efficient cars, (probably not a stipulation) than to banks.

I'd rather it go to anything that produces goods or innovation, than investing $700B in a paper and numbers racket.

sorry kiddo... this was a complete union finagle. shame.

I decided last week that this is the election that I cast my last vote for the DNC. I'm turning in my card, re-registering undeclared and voting Libertarian.

I'm not leaving the democractic party, they left me.

Do you think all of this is going to help me sell my Bed and Breakfast???? ugh

Honestly, I don't know what to tell you. We've reached the point in this crisis that we have to make our own judgments, take our own steps to ensure our individual security. Our government has illustrated that it is profoundly broken and it will likely take a revolt to get it back on track.

I know this; George Bush has successfully made Carter look like the 3rd or 4th best President of all time. Carter's slate is now clean.

Isn't anyone else sick and tired of all the political (both sides) grandstanding and hoping someone back home sees them on TV?

Now, Republicans are blaming Pelosi's speech! What a crock of shit. they voted 2 to 1 against the bill! Since when do they listen to Pelosi?

Tons of Dems and Pubs both voted against this bill.

Is it a bailout of wall street or is it a bailout of banks? It is the banks that are crippled due to they took advantage of deregulation and granted bad mortgage loans.

I'm sick of it too due to I was recently laid off and I have paid my mortgage every month but I'll be damned if I want to see my entire savings disappear due to this outrageous political pandering and continue watchng my home value go to hell.

I'm sick of Congress and sick of Washington. The whole fucking bunch of them are as useless as tits on a boar!

Face it folks, corporate socialism is alive and well in the U.S. and why they bail aout AIG and bailout Freddy and Fannie and bailout the auto industry and then say no to banks that is what it truly needed, shows the priorities are all fucked up.

I see Smith and Wesson stock is up 1.37% today. Someone must think that a depressed economy causes an increased crime rate. Well, duh! But do you hear congress talking about that? Nope, they still are not in touch with the people.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.:frown1:

time to vote for a third party, my friend. Sorry for the trouble you are having....neither of these parties actually care about you...all they care about is getting re-elected.

yeah, cause lots of folks can buy cars when the credit markets are frozen and the banks can't lend money to finance buying cars.

idiot.

Spending $700 Billion on renewable energy would help our economy infinitely more than spending it on paper companies.

If things tank, I prefer a new deal, to big bank bailouts.

the CREDIT MARKETS ARE ***FROZEN***, YOU DUMBASS.

banks cannot lend to one another, they can't loan money to people, the credit market must be re-started.

the credit markets are a circle, the circle has stopped, it must be re-started.

there is no other priority.

congratulations...a good choice....but why not make the last election the one you voted for them last?

I am voting libertarian...it would be nice to have another person to stand up against these two corrupt machines...

please consider voting libertarian, or green, or independent this time around.

our country cannot wait another 4 years to be "saved" from these two disgusting political parties.

I am glad to see this has helped changed someone's mind...maybe true change will start here....tell a friend who is a republican or democrat

DO NOT VOTE REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT

Nearly all of you spent last week arguing politics on this board regarding Paulson's plan. Now Congress has done the same thing and you are all appalled.

Almost none of you have tried to consider the global situation which is impacting upon you so hard.

The West today attempted a rescue plan, did you even know that? Guess who fucked it up royally at the last hurdle? Yes, you dumbfucks. You are the majority cause of all this shit, then you even fuck up attempts to ease the pain.

Though personally I agree with Jason, get ready for a ten year financial ice age.
