Though in this case, a person for whom you've expressed some admiration.

Still no answer as to what "racism" remains in US laws or voting rights in particular...

Overall, all measurable signs point to an American society that has become far less racist than it was 2 or even 1 generations ago.

The fact that the shrillest elements of The Left still make the topic of "race" * a fetish speaks volume about the deficit of ideas plaguing the movement.

* In their retrograde worldview, the "race" debate is still that tired, simplistic, ancient black-and-white-only affair, against overwhelming evidence that American society has morphed into an increasingly multi-racial, multi-ethnic, ever more richly diverse fabric.

I would agree that race issues have improved in many ways over the last couple of generations. But surely that can be attributed to the heroic efforts of people who fought long and hard for equality. While race is still an issue at all, why give up that fight?

Sure it's an old idea. Unfortunately, it's an old problem.

But regardless of that diversity, and the broad range of people who may be guilty of prejudice in one way or another, the targets of oppression remain the same: minorities of various kinds, the impoverished, the disenfranchised. It's still important to speak out on their behalf.

Why give up the fight indeed. The "problem" obviously is alive and well, as has been so clearly demonstrated in many of the comments, arguments, and factual evidence presented herein.

So too the problem of DENIAL, DISMISSAL, and DEFLECTION from those LEGITIMATE concerns - which also has manifested itself here, by way of commentary offered in SUPPORT and DEFENSE of racist/bigoted ideology.

Further, when someone likens appropriately LEGITIMATE responses, replies, rebuttals, and concerns over such bigoted and racist ideology to a "fetish", then THAT alone, is indicative of one who is STILL in denial of both the realities, AND the causes for concern.

In short, they still don't GET it, and what's more, they don't WANT to.

Do you expect everyone to do your work for you? It doesn't matter what evidence is presented because it won't have any effect on you. How about you answer the questions asked of you before wego about answering yours? How does a 99% gay person justify belonging to a party that sees him as less than human? Why haven't you spoken out against your party's anti gay agenda?

malakos this posting by Dom would be an example

Do you agree with EVERY issue and Every representative that comes from your political party? Lots of Catholics, not all, who go to church every Sunday probably support some form of abortion rights, as shocking as that may sound. Gotta believe most people look at the basic core values when supporting a party, cause, religion, etc. And guess what, we see here that even some gays support the Republican Party, again as shocking as that may sound. Kudos to any individual who can look beyond their own self interests and look at the broader positives and benefits.

So you challenge dom for supporting a party that consider gays "less than human?" I'm sure you will dig up several links, no doubt, of the extreme right, but not representative of all. What is the tag line du jour? Not a herd.

Good try but you failed to defend him. I asked why has he not spoken out against the anti gay sentiment his party expresses. Unlike most liberals on here who have spoken out when they feel Obama and the Democrat Party are wrong I have yet to see Dom once admit that the anti gay sentiment needs to change and anti gay politicians or people shouldn't be embraced. Even the LCR refused to endorse a Republican candidate when he embraced the anti gay rhetoric. They didn't change parties. They just admitted their party is wrong. Dom fails to do so no matter how you see it.

Major consumer media study finds liberals far less tolerant than normal people by Andrew Malcolm - Investors.com

Notable Excerpt:

* Liberals are much less tolerant than conservatives of political opinions differing from their own, especially on social media, more consistently choosing to Unfriend, Block, Mute or sever friendships with those whose politics they disagree with.

Sargon? HeirToTheWind? Can you hear us? :biggrin1::biggrin1::biggrin1:

It's ironic, because if you look below at the readers' comments, you get some prime examples of conservative tolerance.

Sad. I agree. But then again I have seen this kind of vitriol thrown at the sweetest grandmas trying to share their cake recipes...

It's like road rage. People feel empowered and shielded...

I sometimes find myself quite amazed by Obama's poise, reserve, and quiet sense of dignity demonstrated in today's press conference. Still speaking of working with and finding common ground with those who've successfully conspired to undermine him, grind government to a halt, and lay the blame of it all at HIS feet.

I don't know whether to be enraged over his seeming naiveté or whether he subscribes to some higher principle or ideal that, I (and I'm certain, MOST of us) have difficulty fathoming.

Not that it was all "carrot". He did, for example, say that he wasn't going wait for the GOP to continue stonewalling immigration reform for two more years. We'll have to see what develops.
