As I stated in an above post, there is drywall made for bathroom installations, and yes, we used it. It's green in color. In fact, I think it's called green board.

.

well proceed at your own risk, but here's a pretty good article that echos my disdain for using greenboard in showers
Greenboard Drywall - What is Greenboard Drywall

two key excerpts:

Greenboard Drywall Cannot Be Used for Wet Applications

"This is a common misunderstanding. While greenboard drywall's paper covering is water-resistent, it is not waterproof. Not only that, but the brittle gypsum core is not suitable for wet applications."

"Using greenboard drywall in a wet location is a recipe for disaster. At the very least, severe mold growth will occur, if not outright failure of the product."

The wet tile saw does look and sound intimidating. But as long as you don't get your fingers anywhere near the blade (which doesn't even have teeth like a normal saw blade) most regular cuts are no sweat.

The REAL "fun" is in drilling holes thru ceramic tile so you can attach things to the wall.

Never drilled through ceramic tile, but I've drilled through other ceramic things to use as flower pots and it is a pain! It cracks so easily!

Thanks for the info. But I'm sure I sealed it all up fairly well with the resin based grout. Now if I had used regular grout I might be worried. So far there are no signs (nor smells) of mold, mildew, or disintergration of the material.

Actually there are special drill bits one must buy for drilling ceramic tile. I had burned up four of them by the time I was finished installing everything.
