I was once working on a show and for the fun of it all 30 of us wrote to a celebrity to see who would respond. I wrote to Bea Arthur and told her how much I had enjoyed her work. She was the only one to write back. I still have her picture post card. She was really amazing. I never get tired of her.

Aunt Maude was more of a man than any other character in All In the Family. Actually, she was more of a man than any character in the Golden Girls too. Until today, she was living proof that you don't need to possess a penis to be a man. She'll be greatly missed.

Gay men everywhere are in mourning.
Well this one certainly is. I heard about it this afternoon. I was a huge fan, and I'm crushed.
I generally hate when corporate America cashes in on celebrity deaths, but in this case I really hope this will push Sony to get with the program and finally release the remaining 5 seasons of "Maude" on DVD.
PS -one of my favourite "Golden Girls" moments here...Getty as Sonny and Bea as Cher!:

Angela Lansbury and Bea Arthur were the original Mame Dennis and Vera Charles in Jerry Herman's 1966 Broadway musical production of "Mame".

Everybody seems to pan the movie "Mame" starring Lucille Ball and Bea Arthur, but I love it. Bea Arthur as Vera in that movie was just incredible.

When Estelle Getty died I wondered to myself how long it might be till Bea Arthur passed as well. Unfortunately it wasn't that much longer.
