I didn't think that Bill Clinton should have resigned as US President when he lied about a sexual liaison, and I don't think Sam Adams should resign at Portland Mayor because he lied about a sexual liaison.
I don't live in PDX anymore, unfortunately, but I am a Portland guy through and through. Portland is the biggest small town you will ever see. Neighbors are totally tolerant of sexual inclination; they just don't want to be aware of you doing it.

Sexual orientation is a non-issue here, except for the fact it makes it a "juicier" scandal for locals.
The issue is that the mayor intitiated some level of flirting with the person in question when they were 17. That is never appropriate behavior for someone in their 40s. I'd almost say this relationship constitutes predatory abuse because of the age difference and power dynamics involved. Any grownup with half a brain knows better and would have done better.

Unless the intern was underaged when the two actually had sex, this shouldn't even be an issue. I don't want to hear about a mayor flirting with a 17 year old. If that was the case, then where is the sexual harassment charge? There isn't one? Well stop assuming and get on with your lives!
For what I can see right now, both participants were of age when they agreed to have sex. If the community is all up in arms about the age difference, then they just need to get over it. As for the "lying"... it's about a man's sex life. What does THAT have to do with his ability to be a Mayor? It's Clinton & Lewinsky all over again, with bitter adversaries ignoring the real problems with our country and making a BIG issue out of someone that really isn't one at all. It's not as if anyone here, or in congress, would either lie or tell anyone else that their sex life was absolutely none of their business.
But hey, let's throw common sense out the window and think of a phony reason to be outraged. A gay, intergenerational relationship between two ADULTS is far more important the economy. His lying over his personal sex life is FAR more important than our need to repair our international reputation. Anyone who thinks that this mayor needs to get fired for this shouldn't even be on this site. Because if you're TRYING to make this into a moral issue, then there's nothing "moral" than being on a website where the topic is big dicks, with more than a few terrabytes of free access to explicit photos and amateur porn. There's obviously more "wholesome" places to talk Politics than this! Is that the reason why a handful of you decide to "hide" their identities around here? troll_un_social included?
