Sexual orientation is a non-issue here, except for the fact it makes it a "juicier" scandal for locals.
I agree.
The issue is that the mayor intitiated some level of flirting with the person in question when they were 17. That is never appropriate behavior for someone in their 40s. I'd almost say this relationship constitutes predatory abuse because of the age difference and power dynamics involved. Any grownup with half a brain knows better and would have done better.
Many people, gay and straight, say they are upset with Mr. Adams because of his deceit, unrelated to his sexual orientation. But sexual orientation has been part of the debate, with some people saying Mr. Adamss actions encourage stereotypes of gay men and hurt their efforts at acceptance. Others say there has been a rush to judgment.
