OK, I don't have anyone else to tell this too at the moment, but since lpsg is (almost) always online, you get the pleasure of hearing my stupid little story:

Last night (Christmas Eve), as opposed to doing my own thing, I opted to go with my folks to a party with all their friends instead (Christmas and family and blah and blah and the whatnot). There was a whole slew of people I knew growing up, but stopped seeing... once I became old enough to not have to hang out with my parents , it really was a good time though, lots of laughs, lots of old memories, etc, etc.

Anyways, at some point, while trapped in some random conversation, I look up... and there stood the single most beautiful girl I have ever seen in my life. Hand to God. Honestly, as I sat there pretending to listen to someone drone on and on about bass fishing or transmissions or whatever, I actually had to consciously stop myself from just staring at her  (that ain't never happened to me before)

So I finally get out of the conversation I'm trapped in and almost immediately get trapped in another by my dad, who needed me to take pictures of a bunch of people... holding a picture. Now, during this little escapade, I asked him if he knew who said female was. He gave me his standard 'what are you, a dumbass?' look and informed me that it was the daughter of the people there who are arguably my parents' closest friends... and that it was the same girl I always tagged along with as a kid. So after after I recover from the shock that that girl grew up into that woman, something else hit me (the point of this post)

Her parents are... to be blunt... not that attractive . We have photos, lots of photos, spanning the last 30+ years... any time frame, doesn't matter: not that attractive.

Yet, somehow, they came together and made the single most gorgeous female in the history of my own little world. (Did I mention she was attractive?)

So I ask: anybody else here ever look at somebody, meet their parents and at some point, just wonder: What the hell happened?

EDIT: On the flip side of that... how about a really attractive couple with ugly kids? :biggrin1:

My first boyfriend was a classic Viking god. Blond hair, green eyes, chiseled features and a body that wouldn't quit. He is third in a family of five and was the ONLY attractive one in the bunch. I was puzzled when I visited his family. His parents weren't attractive at all, both brothers were non-descript, and his sisters looked like his mother. I'd always heard that if you want to see what that person will look like in 20+ years, take a good hard look at their parents. That was almost twenty years ago. I wonder what he looks like now...

Oh man! I've heard that before too, but completely forgot about that until now!

Haha. Something to consider is that if this lovely lass takes good care of herself she may retain that beauty. Think of all the people you know, even celebrities, who would be attractive or more attractive if they took care of themselves.

Genetics have a sense of humor, too.

Look at the fugly offspring of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, for instance.

Me... I look almost exactly like my dad, except I'm 30 years younger, 5 inches taller, and about 150 pounds lighter.

I like how in the Recent Thread/Post boxes it says "Beautiful people with...", disapointingly leading into the "ugly parents" part.

I just Google Image'd for some pictures of those kids and I felt kinda bad about what I saw (far from hideous of course, but still... look at the parents ). Then I remembered how rich they are and the pity... washed away like [incomplete metaphor].

I don't know where I fall in terms of the topic title, btw. I'm often told I look like my mother... which often feels like a backhanded compliment. :33:

Excellent point. My mother, her two sisters, and her mother are/were all very tall and willowy with long, very thin legs. My father's two sisters are tall and willowy. This ectomorph body type is common for the women in my family.

The one exception I know of is my father's mother. She and I have an almost identical body shape, based on photos taken of her in her early twenties (my grandfather was always enchanted by her curves). However, by the time she was my age, she weighed probably 50 pounds more than I do (based on photos), and she remained overweight for the rest of her life.

I can easily understand how this happened. She loved to cook, she loved food, and when she was depressed (which was a lot, according to my father), she would overeat. I've always been aware of what happened to her, as well as my own body's tendency to put on weight if I overeat, and have taken a different path than she did. As a result, I weigh the same amount I did when I was 18.

Ummagumma, don't automatically assume this woman will look like her mother. I never did manage to look like mine...(I would have had to lose about 30 pounds and even then I could never have made my legs longer).

My husband and I are okay looking people, nothing really to write home about... I mean I think my husband is sexy and beautiful, but I know "objectively" he's not your classic cream-your-panties kind of hot. But we have a really cute kid, apparently. I'm biased, as are most of my friends and family. I do get stopped an inordinate amount of time in stores for people to tell me how cute he is (though some of that, I'm sure, is how friendly he is to everyone). I hope, anyway, that he turns out to be devastatingly handsome even though dad and I are pretty average in the looks department. Though I sincerely hope if he does turn out to be really good looking he doesn't act like a jerk about it.

Gene pools are so complex that any two people can produce a wide variety of features, though some are probably salient. I only wish that I would look like my parents twenty years later. They were better looking than I at all ages.

The interesting thing about my famly is that everyone on my mother's side all look like her paternal grandfather's family. (I guess they had some strong genes!) I look so much like my mother and the rest of her family, when I go to visit relatives, friends of the family who haven't seen me in a while know which family I belong to.

We have a photo of my great-grandfather taken when he was in his 20s. (the photo dates from the early 1900s) It is scary at how much I look like him. We look like brothers.

As was said before, genetics are interesting and you never know what will come out of the mix...

    Hey AA,

How cute the first part..its sooo nice to meet people we grow up with and they become attractive , interesting and etc !

Well, my brother and my case was the oposite...we were ugly babies from a beautiful couple... my brother was more ugly than me but than he became cute first...and then a very handsome teenager. I was an attraction because of my talents in charming people to like me but I had to use glasses huge red glasses for my eyes crossed and because I hated to get my hair comb my mom kept short like little boys  ..and I was into playing with boys but still was into singing acting dancing etc...but I remember being introduced proudly by my parents and people say we 2 did not look like them and etc and my parents were people into going to chic parties, all elegant and veru respectable in our community...I did start to become good looking after 14yold... and really good looking even to myself and my brother at 19..because even him at some point told me I was left at the door and the loving couple (my parents) took care of me  and than I always asked my parents if it was true they reassured me that my mom was pregnant of me show pics etc...my bro liked to make me anguish and cry like many brothers do and he was older than me...even thou we at least look like each other, well I looked more like him than my parents, but he was full of himself because he was becoming very handsome and popular. But than everything change to me when I saw pic from my Dad's Mom...I was a copy of her! Than I trully felt deep inside I belong...

Yes..it can happens beautiful parents uggly babies, uggly parents beautiful people...but one thing I know: nothing is warranty...I saw many beautiful babies become not very attractive when grown up...and uggly babies like my bro and myself that become good looking... Better wait to see and say what is what is not . When a person stop growing at least by 18, 19, 20..even later than they have their own individual faces, I think.

There's a song in Cabaret about a meeskite (an ugly man) who meets and falls in love with a meeskite lady and they end up having a gorgeous child.

So I guess it formulates to:

    meeskite + meeskite = gorgeous

Not necessarily! LOL! Also never try to play mother nature! I have seen more people plot and scheme to acquire what they consider prime genetic material only to have not one but all of their children look like themselves....

I thought it was because they melted in your mouth....

I have seen this ugly parent/hot kids phenomenon... I just assumed that the child managed to snag the beauty in both parents.

My mother is beautiful and I'm sure my father would still be too except he's abused himself for many years with booze and drugs. My sisters are pretty. One is short and busty and the other is taller and more petite. My half brother borders on strange looking, his face looks like my father's but morphed a little.

I always just assumed the mother cheated with the milk-man....

Actually, I used to work as a wedding photographer, and so I saw a whole lot of parents with their grown kids, and I discovered that there really isn't any rhyme or reason to it.

As far as the whole "look at her mother to see what she'll look like later thing" Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'm personally hoping that it does work with my girlfriend, her mom's 28 years older than her, and still looks good! The grandma is in her 70's and looks like she's in her 50's so the genes have done right by the family so far!
