There's a lot of news around at the moment and this one isn't getting much coverage. The EU imports gas from Russia. One of the pipelines goes through Belarus, and as a result of a disagreement between Russia and Belarus over prices the supply has been cut. Lithuania, Poland and parts of Germany are affected.
It is the middle of summer and there is an alternative pipeline, via the Ukraine. No one is getting cold. But it is concerning. Last winter we had Russia cutting off gas supplies to Ukraine over a price dispute, which meant the flow to the EU was disrupted. Russia has the ability to cut of the gas whenever it wants.
