Funny how things change. And yet..

Does anyone agree that this is hilariously daft

Its worth discussing. The man always railed against millionaires and then the moment he became one, it ceased to matter. Bit hypocritical isn't it?

It is a fair issue. However his becoming a millionaire is not a sign of hypocrisy. Most of his money is from the value of his real estate. He owns a home in Vermont, where his family lives and his wife works - at least for a while she was a university president (that was problematic - I don't want to sprawl the thread). He also, as many Congressmen and Senators do bought a house in DC when he was first elected. Both have soared in value. He also wrote a book which sold very well. He did not become a venture capitalist, break up companies for their parts value (Mitt Romney) or exploit foolish people with a fake college and bad casino deals (Trump), did not cash in on IPO's with his advanced knowledge as a Senator (legal but obviously shady as fuck). He became a millionaire through his own efforts and choices - no inherited wealth, no child labor, no blackmailing of others over sexual issues. He's almost an accidental millionaire. I don't hear him refusing to pay taxes on what he earns, or creating laws to shielding his wealth.

You live in a hot RE market, Bernie lives in two of them, but the entry level was at one time cheap. When I sold RE in college in the 70's and 80's I sold houses for under 50K for a three bedroom and basement in a nice suburb. Now those same houses sell for 600K. Same house. George Stephanopoulos bought a building in DuPont Circle for a small amount on his Clinton era government salary, When he left Washington less than 5 years later, he sold it for multi-millions because of the massive gay gentrification of that area. The bulk of DC and DC area RE has soared except during the Carter recession and the last collapse that Obama inherited and rebuilt. If you bought before that and held on, you did great.

I have my issues with Bernie, but his wealth, such as it is has been transparent because of his annual filings - no deals with Russia or Ukraine off the books, nothing unethical.

It was not that long ago when the values we're seeing were unimaginable. Now, not so much.

That is some impressive crab walking I'm not gonna lie.

The hypocrisy lies in him conveniently changing his tune once he became a millionaire, not his real estate holdings.

No. A million today is worth only $140,000 in 1968 dollars, the year I started school.

It takes $1,650 today to equal $100 in 1941, the year Bernie was born. The dollar has lost 93% of its value in his lifetime.

Net worth of a million today is peanuts.

If it took Bernie until age 76 to cross that threshold I say it took long enough.;)

so you have failed to acknowledge that he changes his rhetoric once he became a millionaire, just saying.

You're failing to acknowledge the difference between a 1 millionaire and a 50, 100, 500 or 900 millionaire. All are millionaires but the difference is one, two or almost three orders of magnitude.

You're not convincing anyone of anything.

I bet Bernie would have no problem disclosing his tax records if need be. If he has become a Millionaire, then it's probably honestly done.

I don't think the guy hides much at all. Even though I'm not a US citizen, it was very disappointing he got dropped last time around........
.

Ok, if Don opens his trap and uses this type of shit, then all Bernie would have to say is...I'll place my tax records on the public record if you do too Don.

But Don wouldn't be stupid enough to use that argument...would he? :)

We know what we know about Bernie's money because of public financial disclosure records. We don't know nearly as much about Trumps. If you can find it the NYTimes magazine piece on Deutsche Bank was very impressive and worth reading. This is who Don is in bed with.

Nobody should have to disclose their taxes because the mob says so. sorry.

Bernie is a better, smarter, more hard working American than Donald Trump. He can actually communicate by stringing coherent sentences together. He probably worked hard for his million...or millions as you say.

Don kept on and on and on about Obamas birthplace with rumour and innuendo...his normal style of disgusting rhetoric to whip his "mob" into formation behind him, telling them what they wanted to hear...........and then does an about face in one of his incoherent waffling's years later......

Worm of an individual Don is.

Lets take Donald out of the equation for a second and focus with me on Bernie. Remind me about the jobs that Bernie has held in the private sector? He was kicked out of his commune because he was lazy, think about that for a second...the socialist..was kicked out of his commune because he didn't want to do his part of the work. He didn't have a real job..until he went into politics. Thats not 'hard working'

Worse could be said of Trump. He hired illegal aliens pretty much everywhere, failed in the casino business, lost hundreds of millions on the most famous hotel in NYC (The Plaza), robs the US government to keep his failing resorts from failing, he committed fraud and admitted to it in court filings with Trump U., cheated investors with his junk bonds, laughed at them, cheated contractors out of agreed upon payments, laughed at them, confessed to adultery in his books, paid porn stars for sex, lied about it all and was banned from ever running a charity in NY State again, and tried to cheat Veterans charities out of money during his campaign with everyone watching. And then there was some bad stuff . . . No, let's not leave Donald out of it. There's a case to be made against Bernie, but you haven't really touched it. Fail.

until he went into politics.

Which, granting the exclusion of activism, he's been in for forty years.

Essentially you're expecting us to dismiss a seasoned politician because he didn't have his shit together in his radical youth, in the 70's of all times. I'm sure we can all see how incredible your taking that angle is.

You could've made a slightly better case by just suggesting he's too old.
