Okay. I wonder why he calls himself a socialist, then, especially when in this country the connotations of "socialist" are about as favorable as those of "communist," "Leninist," "baby eater," etc.

My thoughts on the matter were similar. The term "socialist" is and historically was the "scarlet letter" of political terms in this country, reminiscent of McCarthyism's "commie" scare (not that I infer communism and socialism are the same), and has been used for the purpose of discrediting everything from the 60's civil rights movement to our current President.

So look to opponents of anything left of center to USE it, in their typical dog-whistle fear-mongering fashion - against the man and ANYONE else even remotely similar.

I like Bernie. I think he's honest and open. I don't think he panders. I think he has firm beliefs and whether or not you agree with those ideas, it is firmly refreshing to see a politician like him.

He has long stated his beliefs on social and economic issues way before many other politicians. He didn't all of a sudden announce a change in position, an evolution of beliefs, when it became politically sound.

I like him.

Why would anyone what a socialist party to rule?? Has it worked in the past??
(1) Do you know anything about the political position of Sanders? . . . I didn't think so.

(2) Having a president of party X does not mean that party X itself "rules" the country. Perhaps you are completely unaware of the American political system.

(3) The word "it" in your second rhetorical question has no antecedent, but perhaps you could explain the identity between what Bernie Sanders sands for and this "it" that has been tried and has (as I assume you think) never worked.

Your post suggests that as soon as you see the word "socialist" you become incapable of drawing distinctions or taking in further information.

Alberta, the most conservative province in Canada, arguably more conservative than Texas, just elected the equivalent of Bernie Sanders and the liberal party took majority control after more than 40 years of conservative rule
Alberta is the most conservative province in Canada (or so we have long believed), and in that sense more like Texas than any other province -- but in no sense is it "arguably more conservative than Texas."
