Memento, Moulin Rouge and Lord of the Rings are the best movies of 2001 of the ones I watched.
Mulholland Drive is considered the best movie of the XXI century for critics, and yet, I find the movie dissapointing. It sold me a thriller to eventually ended up as a surreal, artsy, difficult to watch and difficult to understand piece of art; I guess that was it made him special for some... but not for me.

In the bedroom is a good movie for the plot and acting but the direction is lackluster... in other words: it's a boring movie and I'm against of boring art and boring cinema.

Monster's Ball is great and emotional and the acting is superb, however, I question myself whether this movie is porn misery or not.

Shrek was incredible fun and very original for its time. However, I'm not sure if the originality is more on the movie or the book based.

and finally (of the best movies) AI is a great movie and I love Halley Joel Osment acting; the ending is dissapointing though.

I haven't watched any of the bad movies you mentioned and the only movie of the guilty pleasures is Scary Movie, hillarious but a little bit vulgar for my taste.

Well, remember that's just my opinion. Have fun boy/girl/whatever!
