I'm planning a weekend getaway sometime soon, and I want to get an opinion as soon as possible-- where are the best beaches in the US? I think the obvious choices are Hawaii, California, and Florida, but I can't decide, and I've only got a few days...

Depends a bit on what you want to do at the beach. Sunbathe, surf, socialize, sunsets?

You can't go wrong with Maui.

If you want a kind of quite laid back place look into Morro Bay, California. If you want something a little more 'upbeat' and wanna go nude check out: Black’s Beach, La Jolla, San Diego, CA or Gunnison Beach, Sandy Hook, NJ both are A LOT of fun!

The National Seashore, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Though you're not going to have the weather for it for another couple of months. I believe it is the only beach that is part of the National Parks system. Beautiful.

The water at Cali beaches is always very cold, so it's more of a suntanning place.

Hawaii beaches are great, I assume the water is warm there.

Florida beaches are nice, the water is still too cold for me, but people do get in it this time of year, right now the water is about as warm as it ever gets in the Northeast. Florida has Haulover nude beach which is nice.

The beach that has formed at the mouth of Dark Canyon east of Hite Marina in lake Powell. It's sublime, with giant outcroppings of rugged red rocks, and the canyon has a soft, pink sandy beach on either side: one for those who wear swim suits and the other for those who prefer to be nude. The water comes from the convergence of the Green and Colorado Rivers. It's a bit green, but always fresh and about the temperature of a very warm bath -- except in winter. A great place to be alone and fall asleep on some horrific giant blow up raft in the shape of a sea monster and never have to worry about sharks.

Depends on what you want. But for beauty it is hard to beat Cannon Beach in Oregon. Google it. Also, if you are willing to a bit north and don't plan on swimming, the most beautiful beach is Long Beach on the west coast of Vancouver Island BC. Wreck beach in Vancouver city is pretty cool. Secuded, nude, yet right in the city.

North and South Carolina Beaches are beautiful, as are Georgia beaches. And they aren't as crowded as their Florida and California brethren.

Florida beaches are not crowded compared to the NJ shore
