I have to get into PJ. The ex was into her, too.

Something about amazing women liking PJ. I don't know. That and Target. Haha.

Right now I'm digging Jets to Brazil a lot. Underrated compared to Jawbreaker. Everyone likes Jawbreaker but no one gives any credit to Blake Schwarzenbach with Jets to Brazil.

Of Montreal can get really annoying really fast. But I like that song "Suffer for Fashion" a lot.

Big ups to the posters for mentioning the Stone Roses and Cocorosie.

Anyone into The Fall?

antonym: Supertramp

Supertramp's success had nothing to do with their willingness to sell out and write songs for the money, which they never did. Their popularity was a fluke and had more to do with the musically adventurous attitude of the common radio listener of the 70's.

The opposite of a band like Firehose or R.E.M. is maybe Savage Garden?

Creed has always been a "corporate" band... add bands like "Lit" and "Limp Bizkit" to the list as well.

Out of all of the corporate bands that you could think of... you chose Supertramp as the antonym of the indie band?

I am not telling you anything that you don't know, but I guess that you just hate Supertramp... they are a bunch of faggot liberals anyway right?

Def fucking Leppard is the antonym of an indie band.

I don't normally like indie music much but,

Morphine, The Mars Volta, PJ Harvey, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, reverend Horton Heat, Primus, I was into Widespread before anybody else was in my town! lol!!!

I am a sucker for the Mars Volta though... At the Drive in was pretty cool, but I did find that the members' collaboration in the Mars Volta to be superior. Probably the best combination of killer beats, psychadelic sounds, operatic rock singing and throbbing basslines.

Of course, Mike Watt might be one of the best bass players alive today. It is such a shame that Mark Sandman didn't make it... he was an absolute human DIAMOND!!!!

Fuck Faceking... every Firehose tune that I heard always took my head off! I am never ready for Mike's low end assault. It has absolute nuclear power!!!!!

Sonic Youth is probably the most important indie band though.

As a side note:

R.E.M. cut their first two albums here in Charlotte at Reflections studios. I have spent a lot of time there and my ex-girlfriend worked there for several years... I used to love that place (I never could afford anything but their mastering services, but used to hang out there after sessions with the engineer and talk shit. CPCC had a recording studio on campus but my particular class got to go over there and sit in on some sessions from time to time.)

Switching gears a little bit, I've recently been enjoying Tokyo Police Club's material. They're not inventing the wheel at all, but it's really solid, literate indie rock. Anyone else into their output?

Blessings

Although not technically an indie band, but neither were several of the bands listed so far, but at least indie in spirit.....The Replacements.

And I love PJ Harvey. There's something incredibly sexy about her and her music.
