Most of the time I use itunes and do shit the right way since I am in the music business, however there are times when itunes does not carry some obscure jam that I need to get. I used to use limewire (I have a mac), is that still the best place to get music from? Any other options?

I am LimeWire religious. I stole the pro version from the free version.

YOU CAN DO THAT!?!?! *wonders if he should resist the tempatation*

and i use LimeWire and Ares.

Sometimes i do feel bad pirating music of the people i love, so if i pirate more than 5 songs from one album, i go and buy it.

Are we allowed to talk about pirating files? Limewire is garbage, fin. It used to be good. It has poor selection in my opening, spammed up searches, and a lot of the times low quality music, especially for obscure things.

How very noble of you.

aww, thanks. lol....but if i love the artist and the album, it just makes sense. i downloaded a Coldplay song the other day, and had this small daydream of Chris Martin looking at me all melancholy because i'm stealing from him. :p

i'm bound by morals. :biggrin1:

I just downloaded the new version of limewire and any songs I download won't launch or show up in itunes, what is the deal?

I've had this happen with Limewire as well.

I take the "invisible" mp3 file and re-compile it and save it in WavePad using the same bit rate specs. That usually, but not always, allows iTunes to see the file and its attribute tags.

Sorry, but I'm not paying $16.99 for an album with only 2 or 3 good songs on it...and i've been a musician since i was 5...

Or you could just drag and drop it into windows media player or itunes.

And I'm with lucky8, I'm definately not paying for an album that will have me pressing the skip button after every song.

How do I do that?

I can't just drag it into itunes, it won't show up. And thus far I have not been able to even launch the file while it is on my desktop.

I use rapidshare for all of my downloading needs. I use it to download all of the latest state of the art software (Adobe After Effects CS3 with Red Giant Magic Bullet Suite 2007 anyone... can I get a hell yeah?).

I used to use iTunes until I bought four songs that contained zero music in the file and they didn't give me my money back. The DRM that iTunes uses is soooooo fucking frustrating... you have to burn a goddamn CD everytime you download a song if you want the DRM stripped off... there are some programs that do that for you, but I don't trust that shit on my computer. The worst thing of all is that the waveforms peak at somewhere between -9 and -12 db's!!!! After I remove the DRM by ripping the songs to CD, I have to throw the song in Adobe Audition (audio editor) and boost the volume to 95% (Normalizing) and then save the fucking file... if it is an old song I usually end up remastering it with some fancy Waves plugins (the Mercury bundle is sooooo nice!).

So fuck iTunes, they can SUCK IT for all I care. I just pay for a premium membership at rapidshare (they take Paypal which is really safe) which allows me to download warez and porn to my little heart's content since most of the hacking world uses rapidshare because rapidshare doesn't give anyone up to the feds... they don't play ball with authorities.

Most people have blogs where they share music... there aren't many blogs where they have everything and a lot of the best share sites for music are located outside of the U.S. or are in Spanish. So, you just have to do a Google search for the song and include rapidshare in the search terms. If you were looking for ELO's "Fire on High" you would just type (ELO Fire on High rapidshare) in Google and then you are off. Of course, a lot of music is on the internet grouped in their original albums... to get the song "Fire On High", you might have to type in the name of the album that it was on like (ELO Face the Music rapidshare) and you should get a bunch of sites listed where you can find that song.

There are sites like rapidlibrary.com and RSFind that allow one to search rapidshare for entries, but those sites hold no password information and abour half of the RAR content on rapidshare is password protected. You are better off getting the song at the blog where it originated at first, there you will find the bitrate and codec information about the file and can get the password if the album is protected with one. Of course, if you are just looking for a song, you can search RapidLibrary.com - Rapidshare Search engine for files with the .mp3 extension, they won't be password protected. If you prefer MEGAUPLOAD, you can search on 4MegaUpload.com - Megaupload Search Engine and find the files there without using rapidshare if you don't want to get into the Premium side of it.

Good Luck brother... I have downloaded gigs and gigs of music this way.
