Thank you everyone again for the suggestions. I'm still going through them! There's a lot here!

I can relate. I was never into "kid music" or kids shows or Disney movies. Makes it kind of hard to be a mom! I LIVED on Kenny Loggins Pooh Corner CD's. He has two of them and both of them make me cry equally. Those CDs are so fantastic I can't even describe them.

Heres the WEIRD thing..when my baby was so fussy that nothing could console him I tried Metallica played at somewhat loud volume and it would calm him almost immediately. I have no idea why but I read it on the net somewhere and it worked like a charm.

I'll have to look for that Pooh Corner CD. Who doesn't love Winnie the Pooh?

I would do almost anything to make him to stop crying. He makes this one sound that is so plaintive and sad and his tiny face looks so miserable that it breaks my heart. Other times he screams so loud and high pitched that we can't hear each other even if we're yelling as loud as we can and we're only standing a few feet apart. I'm going, "CAN YOU HAND ME THE DIAPER CREAM?" And he's saying, "WHAT? I CAN'T HEAR YOU! WHAT DID YOU SAY?"

I wonder if the Metallica is like the vacuum cleaner or the blow dryer. They work wonders sometimes. Metallica would be safer than leaving either one of those appliances running while we sleep, which we've done a few times. I've tried a white noise machine, but it doesn't get loud enough. I wonder if I can sleep with Metallica playing...

The Wiggles kick ass.

My rabbit relaxes when I play Metallica. I know, I know, TheBaby is a human, not a rabbit, but still . . .

Carly Simon's "Into White" CD from a couple of years ago is American Folk songs simply and beautifully sung. Kids and adults will love it.

Olivia Newton-John (maybe not 'Physical') - her album "Warm and Tender" (get your minds out of the gutter! :biggrin1:) has children's lullabies.
Jewel "Lullaby" - an album of lullabies (obviously).
Kirsty MacColl - AMAZING voice, her harmonies are so beautiful.
Kate Bush - another beautiful voice.
Eminem (just kidding!).

Barney DRIVES ME INSANE! My sister got a Barney video for her kids when they were little but it got on her nerves so much that after they came to visit for a few days, she 'accidentally' left it behind when they went home.

What's so wrong about classical music?! LOL. I grew up on it!

Also, consider music by:

Clannad
Jewel
Sarah McLaughlin
Micheal Buble
Josh Groban
Barbra Streisand
Any of the standard Rat Pack singers
Ella Fitzgerald
Allison Krauss
Beth Neilsson Chapman
...or maybe some of the GLEE re-interpretations of songs; their choices of songs are rather tame.

Oh, nothing is wrong with classical. I enjoy it and I plan on playing it for him, but it doesn't help with language development and I want to expose my child to a variety of musical styles. I don't need suggestions when it comes to classical music anyway, so that's why I didn't ask for any.

Thank you for your suggestions!

I love the suggestions here. Here's a couple more: Veggie Tales - a christian themed kids show, but the songs are hilarious and well done.

And this may sound weird, but I've worked with a lot of babies and sometimes Native American drumming calms them when they are crying. I think it's because the drum beat mimic the human heart. Kinda like putting a ticking clock with with puppies! lol

Edit: Veggietales is available on ITunes - stick with the Silly Songs series. They really are clever and funny.

Lets see...My 4 year old loves The fray "Don't let me go" and All american Rejects "Gives you hell"!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND...Sandra Boyton, the children's author, has put together some great music composed and sung by everyone from Kevin Bacon to Kelsey Gramer. Snuggle Puppy is his favorite. Sung by Eric Stoltz. It's called the Philidelphia Chicken Soundtrack. You can find them on Barnes and Noble's website.

In 1993, I needed a song to save my life. Tori Amos’ “Winter” played in my head on a loop, until I could stop walking in circles on the prairie.

Later, I would sing it to my sister’s children, and I think that they wondered why I couldn’t get through the refrain without crying. And now that they sing it to their own babies, they know.
