"I found that if you made men more insecure about their masculinity, they displayed more homophobic attitudes, tended to support the Iraq war more and would be more willing to purchase an SUV over another type of vehicle," said Willer.

What if the opinions/feelings of the subjects were the same before the surveys as after "demasculization," i. e., that the majority of the males in the study already supported the war and planned to spend part of their future salaries on SUV's?

If not, then the author is saying that all you need to make a hawk out of a dove is to make him feel insecure about his masculinity.
