It's early we will see. Most of the party just knows Beto as the guy who came close to beating the most hated man in the Senate, and that alone makes him worthwhile. He has a rep of wanting to work across the aisle, which is helpful, he's young and new - little baggage to speak of and someone who can be a positive face of the party going forward. That said, the progressive voters who are bigger in primaries may find him to be lacking. There is an element that will go hungry rather than take half a loaf of bread when that is all that is available. He needs to light a fire in Iowa - bigly, to borrow a phrase. He needs to do very well in New Hampshire. While this is obvious for all candidates he is largely unknown on the national scene in terms of policy.

As I used to say when looking at a house to rehab or an old car to restore, the bones are good. We'll see how it fleshes out. The field is dense and there are only so many small donners to divide up. Bernie has a nice war chest and organization, and Biden will draw a lot of money and support initially at least for being a familiar face.

I'm glad he's in, we'll just have to see how the primary voters embrace him.

What are your thoughts?

You mean this Beto?

Yeah, Texas Democrat here. Pretty much the whole state Democratic party still does this whenever we see him. (The Betomania is real).

A reporter asked Nancy Pelosi what Beto accomplished in the House and she spoke about the energy he brought. She's not wrong.

Beto's not the best idea man. He's not the best debater. I doubt he's the best diplomat. This is what he is though...

He's a motivator. He proved himself extremely deft at inspiring Texas Democrats to stand up and be counted. You look at midterm election results for any prior election and the difference is glaring.

He's not an ideologue for one political philosophy -vs- another. He's just a genuinely nice guy doing his level best to bring a degree of civility back to political discourse and to try and motivate and energize voters to become more actively involved and work together to work through challenges in a way that best fits the community he represents (and now in this case, the nation he wants to represent).

I sent my donation early this morning, as soon as I saw his official announcement. I can only hope he does a good job of helping voters in other states get to know him as well as Texas does :) I know a lot of people elsewhere only have a vague sense of what he's about, but he's a folk hero here among Democrats here.

The man has got cariama. That’s for sure. Rock star status I’d say. He’ll for sure get a lot of the young peoples vote. That is if he can get the nomination.

A drunk snow white Irish American (with an apparently deaf mute wife and a rich judge dad) masquerading as a Latino. That’ll go over well in primary debates.

His father, who was a judge, is dead. You're maybe thinking of his father in law (Amy's father) who is a real estate developer.

His wife (Amy) was president of a company and director for a non-profit.

He's stressed that he is not Latino. He grew up in an 80% Hispanic city and has had the nickname Beto since before he can remember.

You're upset that he's white?

I could not care less. However all that I mentioned are criticisms he is getting from the left. He is going to get skewered by the left going forward.

You say that, and yet you took the time to spread some fake news.

However all that I mentioned are criticisms he is getting from the left. He is going to get skewered by the left going forward.

Criticisms he's getting on some rando's twitter feed that get retweeted by every jackass and their brother on the right? Yeah, I'm aware, your side did the same thing in his senate run.

You post this stuff like anything you just said was not some dumbass line of attack in his senate run. He still got 60% of the vote in a 3-way primary race and went on to have a record shattering 4 million people turn out to vote for him in a midterm.

I know what lines of attack actually hit the target with some voters, but they weren't the fake Mexican / married into money ones. Those are complaints that people who would never vote for a Democrat get riled up about.

Highlights issues of sexism in society. That's not an issue with Beto.

This article is largely about why Beto is a threat to Bernie in the primaries. It's also written by the same guy who went after Barron Trump... funny how GOP sycophants run to any remarks they can find from the people they despise in the hopes that it can lend a modicum of credibility to an anti-Beto argument.

The left blindsides Beto

Politico's not a libs site. It's flagged as unbiased: Politico - Media Bias/Fact Check But yes, it's an article about how some Democrats on the far left have issue with Beto for being more moderate

You are so transparent. Post stuff that you know resonates with the left here to get “likes.”.

A pure fucking wimp and a coward.

Thanks for playing, pansyfied snowflake.

Wow, got under someone's skin now didn't I? That's another "plus" about Beto is how fucking scared he gets you guys. It's always interesting to see who the GOP considers a real threat and you guys have a shit poker face.

I think the Dem field is full of great choices. They all have advantages. It'll be interesting to see what the voters decide. I myself have sent money to Bernie, Kamala, and Beto. I like them all, but living here near Pittsburgh, I only see Beto getting a PA crowd excited. It will be an exciting time ahead.

These articles are interesting. I was under the impression that the left loved him.

@keenobserver Pssst, were you aware that we're supposed to be part of a collective consciousness? Why do we even have primaries, anyways, since we're all apparently supposed to be of one mind?

Resistance is futile!

I like how you accuse me of posting fake news when I just reported on what libs are saying, without opinion. Then as I said you would, you run to Keen for playground approval, confirming what a assclown you are. What grown man( using the word loosely in your case) turns to his clubhouse geek squad buddies for support? Stand on your own 2 feet, you big baby.

Irish O’rourke is a decent choice as a candidate so he hardly scares me. He isnt leftist enough to get the call anyways, and he LOST his last election.

You are so weakly predictable.

You aren’t supposed to believe anything posted that isn’t vetted by the lib echo chamber here, even if it simply a link and not a poster’s opinion.

The Dems are not going to nominate a wealthy white male with a cardboard cut out mute white wife, who lost his last election to Ted Cruz. Hickenlooper is a much stronger white male candidate, as he is a proven winner.

Hell you could nominate a deoderized dead skunk and probably beat Trump, But the Dem nominee will likely have to strong a leftist smell, and that will make it a horserace.
