You equate sex to physical intimacy. And for you that works. But it isn't the only way.
For some, sex is just physcial pleasure and not about closeness or intimacy. It is like taking a bubble bath, drinking a fine wine, or skydiving. It provides a physical sensation, an adrenaline (or testoserone) rush, and that's all.
If the OP separates the intimacy from the sex, then it's likes one partner like vanilla and the other liking chocolate ice cream. One can have vanilla once a week and the other can have chocolate daily.
