I made it home (nyc suburb in jersey) in time for the big blackout...It did not affect us; until Friday morning when family friends in the city started calling and asking if they could come stay with us. We ended up with 15 guests (about half brought sleeping bags so they could sleep on the floor). Most of them had/have heart or asthma problems, and the heat and humidity was taking a toll. Much the same thing happened up and down our street....so it was party time from noon on.

My 3 brothers, hs friends, and I pitched tents in the backyard and sat out until the wee hours partying. I do not think that I ever saw stars from our backyard before....but with the lights from the city out, they appeared. Strange...cool.

Today all the city people returned home. Now a few days with family and some serious partying before driving across the country to a new life.

Bush was on TV telling the affected not to panic. (Yes, I know. But this is how he makes the pie higher.)

aussiechick63: I'm glad to hear everyone is surviving so far.
We did hear about it over here too and the blame from what we hear is- America is blaming Canada and Canada is blaming America. We even saw pics (dark ones) of New york. Stay cool everyone, think of me still rugged up in jumpers and trakkies.

sammygirly: The thing that I enjoyed the most was actually seeing stars in the sky....amazing thing you dont realize you miss in the city.

Geez, saw a news report tonight that said 3 major american generators went out blah blah blah...

They can't pick a story.

We were ordered into a state of emergency, but were assured right away that it wasn't terrorists. Sad that that's the first thing we all thought of....

wvalady1968: “Everyone comes out into the street with the beer from their fridge (it was gonna get warm anyway, c'mon) and someone brings out a radio that runs on batteries.”
Welcome to Saturday night in West Virginia!

“we DID drink all the beers in the fridge and all the ice cream...it WAS gonna melt anyway...” Oh, yeah!! You're my kind of lady! Can’t waste good ice cream!!

“I bet there'll be a little baby boom.” Since this is larger, numbers wise, than the previous one [when?], wanna start a pool to guess how many little ones arrive in 9 months or so?

“Wouldn't you hate to be the person, somewhere, who just happened to turn on a light or tripped over an extension cord at the exact moment it happened?”
Hey, Sweetie! I bought you a new super duper vibrator! I'll just plug it in over here and...

“These days they're worried that if they're too graphic in their explanations, some terrorist will be taking notes.” You know, that’s really true. Or maybe it’s a good fake out so they don’t have to tell us the truth? Will we ever know?

In OZ, it has been in the news for the fast few days. And I heard about all sorts of possible causes, but the news did say that terrorism was ruled out.

7x6andchg: Sammygirly -

You're right - since I moved to the "country" some 2 years ago it's amazing how many more stars I can see out here than when I lived in the Twin Cities.

Must have been beautiful and in its own way kind of humbling.
