Yeah.... Cubans.
OK, I have to say that this is one of the times that I partially agree with Jonb.
To truly understand why the Iraqi athletes despise Bush, and why they've stated publicly that they don't want him using them (collectively) for his campaign ads, you need to look at it from their point of view.
It's not a matter of the former regime versus democracy. For many Muslims, it's about pure Islam versus diluted Islam. In a religious state, they don't need democracy; they believe Islam is whole and needs nothing else. So this is something we forced on them. This is the Ugly American once again, saying that we know what's best for everyone else. This isn't to say that Hussein should've remained in power. There's benevolence and malevolence just as there is in any other type of governing body. For the Iragis, they wanted Hussein out in order to be able to return to a pure Islamic state.
If it was simply a matter of "freedom and democracy" then there'd be a dozen other countries we should be invading and toppling.
And btw, Osama, while having some influence, was never in charge of Afganistan, and the Iraqis were never under Clinton. Your ability to turn this into a Right-Left argument apalls me. How free are you under the Bush administration, Bradlee, with 12,200 jobs lost in Canton, Ohio alone since Bush took office? How free do you feel knowing that a suicide bomber could blow themselves up next to you at the mall in Anytown, Ohio? How free do you feel travelling abroad, knowing that everyione can pick you out as an American by the shoes you wear, and secretly think you're a pig? How free do you feel after Bush took the world's sympathy after Sept 11 and turned it into hatred?
Yup, those policies worked real well.
