Birddogs gym shorts - "free balling crotch crusaders"

They call them gym shorts? Look more like preppy shorts a guy would wear at the country club. Gym shorts are short. Or at least I think they should be. I saw a guy at my gym last week with shorts literally almost down to his ankles. "Why not just wear a skirt?" I asked myself. I can't even seem to find any gym shorts like they used to have. All I see are the longer baggy ones.
I never understood why they say these are for freeballing. True, you don't wear underwear with them. But that is only because they have a built in boxerbrief.
I'm confused... If these are free balling crotch crusaders, why is it that all of the photos on the linked page are of the short's ass? Am I putting my balls in the wrong place when I hang them down my left leg?

They look cool but I bought some and sent them back, didn't like them. Just my $0.02 and YMMV of course.
