Birth control / hormone issue

My girlfriend has been off birth control for a few months now. She was having erratic mood swings and absolutely 0 sex drive towards the end of using it and now her mood has gotten much better but the sex drive is still at about 0. She wants to have that physical urge again that she had before being on BC. She's going to her gyno soon and I was curious as to what types of blood work can be done to see what the culprit is. Anybody have experience with this? From what I've read, it might be the SBHG levels being too high. Can this be counteracted through testosterone therapy?

I was thinking telling her to have T levels, and estrogen / estrone tested. Anything else that might be helpful advice?

I agree with the above poster. Ths described symptoms don't seem terribly out of line for coming off BC in general, and the doctor will be used to investigating these types of shenanigans. If she feels unsatisfied after the visit, she can request to see an endocrinologist instead.

It could easily take 6 mos to a year for drive to return. I would trust the doc to know what all to test. Like Ms AE said, she can always go see a specialist if she is unsatisfied with the GP visit.

normally I would definitely go with the advice of her specialist, but from past times she's gone they mention loss of sex drive might occur and they act as if there's no coming back from that. Maybe it's just a bad doctor then eh? It's been around 7 months and no changes in sex drive still :frown1:

What part of 6 months to a year don't you get?At 7 months you have some time left. Then if it does not change go see a new doctor.
