Also buried in the same article:

"The attorney general said the grand jury investigation confirmed that the police had properly knocked and announced their presence before bursting in to Ms. Taylor’s apartment — a point disputed by Mr. Walker and by a number of neighbors who have said in interviews with reporters that they heard no announcement."

Surely this is an important point of contention. If the neighbors' statements are correct, no conservative worthy of the name could possibly object to a citizen firing his gun in self-defense against unannounced intruders.

I live in a country where defensive force must not be disproportionate to the objective. In America the law allows for lethal force in these circumstances. That’s why Breonna’s boyfriend wasn’t charged was shooting the police.

Your suggestion Is that because the neighbours didn’t hear the knock, it didn’t happen? The warrant was executed at 12:40am on a Friday night. People are asleep. People are partying.

12 witnesses were very much awake and say they heard nothing.

That article is about as balanced as it's ever going to get. Breonna's boyfriend firing isn't omitted from any articles. That's actually an excuse and justification so many like to use. What's causing the rioting is the continuous injustice that happens in the united states. Black people are tired of being treated like this. Those police officers broke into their apartment in the middle of the night unannounced with a no knock warrant and killed an innocent woman. The fact that the cops were allowed to get away with killing her sends a clear message that her and the lives of black people do not matter. The fact that only one officer was charged with shooting into the walls and not at Breonna makes that message loud and clear.

I just don’t think the conversation benefits from the loaded language here. Search warrants are a necessary but dangerous part of any policing operation. Each case must be considered in accordance with the law.

let’s not forget that this was a grand jury determination based on all available evidence. There are disgraceful acts of police misconduct in America, but this isn’t one of them.

And how, exactly, do you know this.? The grand jury heard whatever evidence the AG DECIDED to present. There is no way for YOU to know that ALL available evidence was presented.

Yes, this was determined by a grand jury. But we do not know what evidence was presented for them to deliberate on. I'm not sure how they do things down there in Australia, but here. Cases like these are led by the AG. We don't know what he brought forth for the jury to base their decision upon. This case already has too many red flags. The police had a no knock warrant, but claims to have knocked and announced themselves. The police apparently had bodycams that weren't magnificently on that night. There were several errors in their reports. Claiming Breonna wasn’t injured. They calmed not to have used forced entry. They didn't provide immediate medical assistance. There are too many errors and the police were clearly lying. This was wrong on so many levels and the police need to be held accountable for their actions.

I don't know if you lot in America can access BBC podcasts but this one is electrifying.

It's about the Oklanhoma City bombing 25 yrs on and draws a line from Ruby Ridge and white nationalism, through Timothy McVey, conspiracy theories and gun shows to US far right extremism today.

Border Patrol Snipers Were Authorized to Use Deadly Force at George Floyd’s Burial
Records obtained by VICE News show police in Pearland, Texas, invited federal agents to surveil Floyd's burial and authorized them to open fire in the event of unrest.

With hundreds of mourners planning to gather in Pearland, Texas, on June 9 for the burial of George Floyd, local and federal authorities braced for “rioting and looting” in the Houston suburb — and they were willing to use deadly force.

As a horse-drawn carriage took Floyd’s body to its final resting place in Pearland’s Houston Memorial Gardens cemetery, planning records show that at least six “sniper teams” were in place on rooftops and authorized to open fire if the situation spiraled out of control. The records, labeled highly confidential, also state that an FBI surveillance aircraft was flown over the burial, and that “overwatch units” were sent to monitor the crowd for violent “agitators.”

Pearland officials also welcomed a large contingent of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents to the city, including dozens of members of the immigration agency’s militarized tactical unit. Known as BORTAC, it’s equipped with military-grade firepower and commando-style uniforms, and deploys to conflict zones “around the world,” according to the agency.

With the burial occurring in the wake of nationwide protests that in some instances turned violent, city records show that law enforcement prepared for the worst-case scenario in Pearland. The records show local and federal officials were ready and willing to open fire, even as the nation was undergoing a reckoning over systemic racism and excessive use of force by police in the aftermath of Floyd’s death.

The mayor of Houston took pains to emphasize the need for a more peaceful approach, announcing during his eulogy at Floyd’s funeral service that he would ban the use of chokeholds in the city. He also noted that Houston police officers are required to issue a verbal warning before shooting at anyone. In contrast, records show law enforcement in Pearland, about 20 miles south of Houston, had broad leeway to use deadly force during the burial proceedings.

As the other thread was started not out of enlightenment and empathy a more factual one based on understanding and clarity is started.

About the Black Lives Matter Network

Black Lives Matter is a chapter-based national organization working for the validity of Black life. We are working to (re)build the Black liberation movement.

This is Not a Moment, but a Movement.

#BlackLivesMatter was created in 2012 after Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman, was acquitted for his crime, and dead 17-year old Trayvon was posthumously placed on trial for his own murder. Rooted in the experiences of Black people in this country who actively resist our dehumanization, #BlackLivesMatter is a call to action and a response to the virulent anti-Black racism that permeates our society.Black Lives Matter is a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes.

What Does #BlackLivesMatter Mean?

When we say Black Lives Matter, we are broadening the conversation around state violence to include all of the ways in which Black people are intentionally left powerless at the hands of the state. We are talking about the ways in which Black lives are deprived of our basic human rights and dignity.

Black Lives Matter, more and more, as does African American's awesome cultural influence on American society and the Arts here.

Top story on ArtNews.com, today: The socially significant and important work of "Harlem Renaissance" painter and printmaker, Jacob Lawrence:

Jacob Lawrence: Who Was He, and Why Is He Important?

He lived an incredible life, and produced equally incredible, meaningful, beautiful art work.

That 3rd degree murder charge was originally the sole charge prosecutors were to level against Derek Chauvin. But this caused further outrage as legal experts noted this charge was inappropriate in this instance, thus would have been dismissed by the judge and allowed Chauvin to escape justice. Hence advocates for justice demanded prosecutors bring 1st or 2nd degree murder charges instead.

Judge drops 3rd-degree murder charge against Derek Chauvin in George Floyd’s death
Excerpt:

“Because a third-degree murder charge can be sustained only in situations in which the defendant’s actions were ‘eminently dangerous to other persons’ and were not specifically directed at the particular person whose death occurred, this is not an appropriate case for a third-degree murder charge,” Cahill wrote in his 107-page order and opinion.

“The evidence presented by the State does not indicate that Chauvin’s actions were eminently dangerous to anyone other than Floyd. More importantly, Chauvin’s actions were of course specifically directed at the particular person whose death occurred, George Floyd, upon whom Chauvin kneeled for more than nine minutes, pressing Floyd’s upper chest area, neck and throat, and face into the concrete of Chicago Avenue.”

OK... I can accept that, if he is still charged with, prosecuted, and jailed, for the murder of George Floyd.

Exactly what Trump himself said of Black people. Yet he has a----les like Herschel Walker, and Kanye, and Cameron, and Owens, and THOMas, et al lending support to that kind of shit.

Face it, Trump's whole candidacy from day one, was a racist, bigoted, HATE fest. Their determination to undo Obamacare and everything else "Obama," driven by hatred for the Black man who accomplished it. NOTHING else. If Obamacare were created by someone like Trump, it would be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

So hopefully his zombie constituency will be HAPPY when the Barrett "supreme" court KILLS IT. Along with Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.
