Sun fades tats of any color, especially if someone is getting sunburned.

I have a tat that is black, gray, and white. the white was used to create a shiny effect. So yes, there is white used in tattoos.

I have seven tattoos, all of which are at different degrees of fading... three of them are all black, the other 4 are colored... two red, one blue, and one that's all kindsa different colors. None of them seem to be any better or worse at fading. The oldest ones are the most faded, the recent ones aren't so much so. I need to get them ALL redone before I can even think about getting a new tattoo, and that blows. I have more I want to get!

No, it would not because lighter pigments become easily absorbed by dark skin. Hence the most common tattoo color for darker skinned black people is black or sometimes navy blue.

Thank you, it appears I wasnt the only one who didnt know the answer to this question. But yet I feel guilty for asking a question that I honestly didnt know, hell.....my black friends didnt know either (although none have a tatoo), yet as arliss has so eloquently stated, Im an asshole. Why? Because Im a white guy who asked a perfectly logical question about a black person that incorrectly appears to have racist connotations? Or is it something else? Arliss, please enlighten me as to why asking that question makes me an asshole?

Black people have a tendency to hide in dark corners so it doesn't matter what their tattoo colors are as you'll never see them in the dark anyway.

Here's an example of a white tattoo. It looks more like a branding. They look better when they are outlined in black.

Too bad this thread immediately became so hostile... I thought the OP's question was legit.

I was wondering about this just last night watching the Sonics/Jazz game, as many of the black players, light and dark skinned, had shoulder and arm tattoos... some of them quite large.

I know many people with tattoos with white or pastel colors, some with dark skin, some quite pale. I've not heard of them complaining about those colors fading any faster than dark colors. Some of them have very artistic tattoos, where the white coloring is not just "highlights", but the featured color. They actually look awesome on dark skin as well as white on white, and show well.

Mainly my thinking about it was about the fading problem, as well as, if the players are thought of, by management and fans, as being rebels, still, for having their tattoos visible, as it is so much a common thing, publicly, these days.

My friends with light colored tattoos on their dark skin did so on purpose... to better show off a chosen image... why is it a problem to ask about it?

I've got a bunch of friends with tattoos--both white and black people.
A lady I know who is pretty light skinned has a a tattoo in color, but the darker colors in it are more prominent than the light ones. When I had my tattoos done, the artist told me that because of the pigments, colors fade fastest, with black staying the longest, unless you spend a lot of time outside or tan. My tattoos are on my ankles/lower leg and I've not noticed any fading and I've had them for for over 10 years.

I think it depends on how much pigment is used and what colors are used.
Of course, on a darker skinned person the tattoo just won't show up as well as on someone who is very fair...or albino!

LOL! Thanks, Snoozan. Here I thought it was Ka-razor all these years. I was enjoying imagining him with a straight razor in his hand....:biggrin1:

*envision James Brown standing in a dark alley about to fight a foe with a straight razor in his hand while doing quick dance steps*

*throws monitor out the window*

Is this before OR after we start shooting while eating Chicken and watermelon and hiding our secret tails?

I'm so confused...lol

I can only guess where you are trying to go with that post. You would think a mod could communicate a bit more effectively.

So let me get this straight.. HaagenDazs throws out 3 obviously stereotypical remarks about an African American male and nothing is said, but when I simply reply with one more, you throw some ebonic tirade at me? Whats up with that?

The pigment in tattoos goes under the top of the skin. It's not resting on top of the skin. Therefore, any color used must actually be darker than the skin in order to show. Furthermore, the following equation is true:

pigment used + color of skin = color of tattoo.

How did you miss that she was also making fun of black stereotypes? You killed the joke. I hope you're happy. I'm calling the authorities. I plan to testify at your trial you joke murderer.
