Michael Bl2o2omberg
announced running for USA Presidency in 2020

Why I think Michael Bloomberg will make a great president

Like Trump, he doesnt need big corp money
Like Trump, he sways between Dem and Rep, and so not a tired party insider.
Like Trump, he's succesful in reaching both blue and white collar.

Unlike Trump, he comes with political skills and proven record as mayor
Unlike Trump, he's much more rational.
Unlike Trump, he doesnt come with an entourage, or scandal baggage
Unlike Other Dem. candidates, he's not divisive and could pull in Republican voters

Stop and frisk disqualifies him as well as his obscene wealth and scorn for a fairer taxation system are not acceptable.

No black person — or Hispanic person or ally of people of color — should ever even consider voting for Michael Bloomberg in the primary. His expansion of the notoriously racist stop-and-frisk program in New York, which swept up millions of innocent New Yorkers, primarily young black and Hispanic men, is a complete and nonnegotiable deal killer.

And now he's apologizing for it because opps now he needs black and hispanic voters to win.

He should flip to republican and challenge Trump. His gang of deplorables would love stop-and-frisk to go nationwide.

“I was wrong,” Mr. Bloomberg declared. “And I am sorry.”

The speech, Mr. Bloomberg’s first since he re-emerged as a possible presidential candidate, was a remarkable concession by a 77-year-old billionaire not known for self-doubt: that a pillar of his 12-year mayoralty was a mistake that he now regrets. It was also, in some ways, a last word on an era of aggressive policing in New York City that began a generation ago under former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani — though the fallout on neighborhoods is still felt to this day.

Michael Bloomberg Pushed ‘Stop-and-Frisk’ Policing. Now He’s Apologizing.
Ahead of a possible Democratic run for president, the former mayor of New York City reversed himself before an important party constituency: black voters.

Mike Bloomberg’s $34M ad buy is the equivalent of the typical American writing a check for $39 bucks. I’ll say that again. Mike Bloomberg spending $34M of his own money on politics is like the median American family spending $39 on a movie night.

Stop and frisk proved he is racist.

His recent apology for it proves he's a lying sack.

There are hundreds of minority men and women in NYC jails right now who have been waiting months or years for trial because they cannot afford bail. If Michael's apology was sincere he would use his billions to bail them all out, pay for their private defense attorneys and re-establish them outside the racially biased legal system he supported and sustained.

Instead he behaves like a billionaire and attempts to further aggrandize himself as president.

Exactly. It’s just another vanity project for someone who already has it all.

Last night on MSNBC a member of the NYT editorial board, a youngish African-American woman made an interesting argument about Bloomberg's viability, his history of accomplishments and his relationships with the black community. Since he apologized for 'stop and frisk,' her point was that if he follows up sincerely to address the issues with stop and frisk he could become a force to deal with policing issues as well as begin a conversation of the issue of reparations. She further feels that the black community sees the need to beat Trump and would support Bloomberg if Biden falters. Her presentation really caught me off guard, so I need to look at Blomberg a bit more than I had planned. It pains me to admit it but I was really jolted by the onslaught of Bloomberg ads I saw just yesterday.

The primary race just got a lot more interesting / complicated.

Stay tuned.

It is a matter of "if". If he apologized solely because he needs the black vote then it's completely hollow (since he only apologized when he decided to run his apology is highly suspect) but if he were to take that incident and begin to make some changes around the 'evil' that was stop and frisk then he might have a chance.

As for the amount of ads, I'm not impressed. It just strikes me as another rich dude thinking he can buy his way into office. It's a vanity project.

And as @halcyondays said " if Michael's apology was sincere he would use his billions to bail them all out, pay for their private defense attorneys and re-establish them outside the racially biased legal system he supported and sustained." We won't hold our breaths for that to happen.

The writer seemed to feel he will make sincere, measurable efforts to show how he does regret the decision and mitigate some of the damage it caused. She based this on her own long history of covering him as a reporter and was clear that his actions would be the key.

As to another 'rich dude' buying his way into office - gee, that would NEVER work in America, would it?

If you're looking for a candidate who is keyed in to racial injustice in America and would take steps to combat it as president... CORY BOOKER IS RIGHT FUCKING THERE :p

It's great NYT editorial board likes the guy who was mayor of the city where their paper is located, but Bloomberg's still a schmuck and this is still a vanity project for him.

Yet Corey is not catching on with voters, or even African-American voters. Frankly it is one of the bigger surprises of the race. I really expected him to be a bigger force than what we have seen so far. He has ALL of the tools. I am really at a loss with him.

I'm not exactly sure what's happened with his campaign, but I think for me, my concern is this: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2020-primaries/democratic/new-jersey/

A candidate's home state voters are the ones who know them best and the voters of NJ don't seem super thrilled that their senator is in the presidential race. Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, Pete Buttigieg, even Beto O'Rourke... all of them were fighting it out for the 1st place spot in state primary polling and certainly at least getting 2nd place.

But Booker's struggled to generate excitement even in NJ. It gives an unshakable sense that something's "wrong", even if you don't know exactly what it is. It's not nefarious, he still has NJ's support as a senator, but it's just more like... well damn, if he can't win over the Democrats in his own state, how's he going to win over anyone else?

I still like Cory Booker, a lot, but ability to beat Trump is a factor in my decision and Booker's home-state performance doesn't leave me feeling like he could make it across the finish line.

Excellent points re: homestate voters. When O'Malley was governor of Md., EVERYONE knew he was angling for a presidential run and we all knew it would end badly. Surprise, Surprise!
