BMW Concept Car

It sounds cool till your car shrinks after a rainstorm.

That car would never survive a Wisconsin winter, and I shudder to think about what would happen to it if you hit a deer as is very common in these parts during certain times of year.

That's pretty sick. Have you seen Ford's concept?

Why the fuck are they calling that a shelby if it wasn't designed by Carol Shelby?

And the fabric car?
What a stupid idea...

STEEL isn't good enough to prevent damage... surely nothing bad could ever happen to fabric!

That's all I need, a run in my car.

Someone opening a door and tearing a huge gash...

And, of course,m the lovely way it balloons up and flutters at highway speeds ( air flowing over the body causes a bernoulli effect... low air pressure outside, high pressure inside the body... its why motorcycle riders jackets puff up...)

Opps... someone spilled wine and STAINED my car!....

yeah, fucking brilliant.

I'm not a major fan of the bmw concept car, it looks like its covered in a wrinkled sheet when the doors are opened. I do like the look of Fords concept car, but it is a ford.

I love the way the engine cover opens, if only they had made the BMW logo the button, rubbing it would work the same way as a woman's vagina! :p

Ford Shelby GR-1 concept

"More than 42 years after their original agreement to produce performance cars, Ford Motor Company and Carroll Shelby are back together producing production and concept cars. Shelby, a former race car driver and creator of numerous collectable performance cars returned to collaboration with Ford in the design of the 2005 Ford GT."

But the link first provided named an entirely different "designer"...

I guess Shelby is just getting big bucks to let them plaster his name ion something someone else designed... like J lo having a designer label for "clothing" you know she had no hand in....

They have been building aircraft out of fabric since the beginning of aircraft. This new car sounds like a cool idea.

Yeah, but you know, no one at the airport ever bangs their fucking door into your airplane...

Plus airplane fabric is doped and stretched to cover NON flexing surfaces...

The idea is for it to be tight and stay tight...

The way the BMWs doors wrinkle shows that the fabric simply can not be doped.

Look... I am sure as a design exercise it was fun and it looks neat on the auto-show floor.

But it will never find its way to a production car.

The thing most automakers learn form most 'concpet' cars is ," wow, this is a really unworkable concept."

Perhaps we should hold judgment on this until we have more details since we know nothing about this fabric. Some positives I can see are it being very lightweight, dent resistant and easy/cheap to replace.

Regarding concept cars, most of the technology on the road came from concept cars.

Cheap?

On a BMW?

That I seriously doubt.

As to lightweight...with the framing required to get it to hold its shape as tight as it will have to be stretched to keep from vibrating it can't possibly be significantly lighter than aluminum or kevlar.

Me... I want a car made out that stuff they make rubbermaid buckets out of...
