I tried to teach 2 gay men from NYC how to surf. They wore speedos while I had on these really colorful board shorts. Speedos are boring fashion and colorwise, board shorts show some style IMO, which is kinda the opposite of convention.

Which do you prefer?

you can show off your package in board shorts if you find the right pair and really want to tease other guys. I grew up in Fort Lauderdale and was a swimmer so I prefer speedo type suits that show off everything. Speedos themselves are uncomfortable to me as they have no real pouch for the cock and balls so I prefer suits that mimic the style but have more cock room. Sure there's no tease and you can tell how much I am packing, but it's as close to being naked in public as you can get.

I don't think speedos are boring at all. I love to see a guy in a nice, tight speedo. That said, there are other options between those and board shorts, such as normal swim trunks or squarecuts. I can't personally pull off a speedo, but if I could, I would. (And hope to someday) I think board shorts can be kind of clunky, but then again it might just be from seeing guys wearing styles that are too big and/or too long.

It's always been speedos/briefs for me and they're not boring at all, there's so much choice nowadays! Mind you, I do also wear shorts. It's also funny how we men kind of assume we look good in everything and that we have all the choice in the world. However I think there are certain body types that look better in speedos and others are made for shorts. A large percentage can probably pull off both. Overthinking about our image is a waste of time imho but a little awareness can't hurt.

For me, Solar Speedos are the most comfortable swimwear. I was wearing them in my own pool but unfortunately my wife throws and unbelievable and ridiculous hissyfit and detests them. May be a culture thing, I am Hispanic and growing up in South America it is what my father and other adults wore at the beach, I'd have no problem wearing them alt the beach and have on few occasions when solo. Now I mostly just wear them when swimming laps at the gym (which my wife also detests but doesn't know or see me do it).

Yeah, you're definitely going to raise some eyebrows wearing speedos almost anywhere in the US. I've never been inclined to wear them anyway and board shorts are not nearly as baggy as they used to be

If I have to wear a suit, then Speedos, or a better-cut equivalent (preferably one that is contoured, they look much better). I was on a swim team, and after that, you just can't go back. What's the point of getting out in nature, and not being as close to natural as you can be! Plus, lots of wet fabric hanging on you feels gross.

But my preference is nothing at all, of course!

It appears we're moving toward the 70's style of male swim wear here in the states. More people have become "so over" the old board shorts. Some countries are there already. For whatever reason US hasn't seemed to get the message yet. It will be interesting to watch the transition.

I love to wear Speedo‘s especially in Fort Lauderdale, Key West, and Palm Springs. Of course it was places you can also just be nude.

So there is a disturbing trend I have noticed this summer in Spain. Specifically on the islands of Ibiza and Foremantara. (the only two islands we have sailed so far this summer). For the past couple of years we have noticed fewer Speedos and more board shorts, particularly among the younger guys. Don't get me wrong, there are still Speedos at the beaches, but not as common as even a couple of years ago.

But here is the latest. Guys taking board shorts and rolling them up so they are more the size of a Speedo. They look horrible, like they have diapers on. I never thought I would be saying, "Just wear your board shorts."
