I read the books on which The 100 was inspired, and they were okay. Not terrible, but not excellent either. I'll give Rothenberg this: he took a fascinating concept and built beautifully upon that concept. I thought his world-building on the show was some of the most impressive since Buffy (and let's be honest Buffy’s spirit was palpable in The 100), but he really screwed up in not following where his narratives led.

TV Bellamy and Clarke’s plots and personalities pointed to a romantic endgame as early as season 2. Because they
were romantic endgame in the books
I think Rothenberg purposely ignored the natural signs apparent in character interactions and plotting. And that screwed him in the end because the characters we’d followed 7 seasons were unrecognizable and behaved out of character at the end.
Ahhhhh....see I never read the books (and not say I didn't see what people are talking about) I just felt the way the story was going it would never happen...which makes sense bc it looks like he pulled a PLL and did a significant change....I am interested in knowing how hisnew show he started shooting will turn out though...it called "Limbo" and got six episodes (so I'm hoping it's good)

I think the violent backlash to thd death of the Lexa character made it impossible for Clarke and Bellamy to get together in the end.

Well, I mean, except on just a few points the books bear minimal resemblance to the show. So, it didn't really affect my approach to the the tv show. But I guess it did subconsciously color my view on Clarke and Bellamy

I know it's been months but I always felt they were never going to be together. Like I want to say they were aiming for like star crossed lovers at one point, but ended up giving us season 1/2 Sterek. Like I always felt that was the story line they were going for, but they couldn't bring themselves to kill off one of the shows two leads imo, well until (spoilers) they did. Given I do feel he got shafted, and was only brought back to get killed bc the show was ending....like I don't think they would of brought him back otherwise
Eliza Taylor said her and Bob were told to play certain scenes as romantic throughout the course of the show, especially in season 6, but the script changed in season 7. A bunch of writers left for the last season which explains why it was so bad, but Bellamy's death was bullshit.
He was written off the show because after Eliza had a miscarriage, Bob was told by his therapist he had to take time off for the sake of his mental health. Jason didn't like this so he wrote him off for most of the season and then brought him back just to kill him. Not surprising if you know anything about Rothenberg, he was awful to the non-white actors in the show.
