I have always not been sexually attracted to the bodybuilder type. I haven't read the article but I've always gravitated toward more lean men.
Bodybuilders are the epitome of lean. They compete at 4% body fat. You prefer more slight builds. There's a difference.
As for me... there is a line between "attractive/appealing" and "gone too far". If his muscles look deformed, it's too far for me. When they get to a certain point, there's no smooth transition between muscles anymore. They get lumpy and awkward. That's too much for me to look at and be turned on by. There is also "too lean". I typically prefer somewhere along the 10% body fat line on a man. When competitive builders get competition ready, bleh. Too vascular, too many striations. It's just not something I want to touch. I think their bodies are beautiful in the sense that I know what it takes to achieve what they achieve, but aesthetically.... doesn't do it for me.
I have found the vast majority of body builders to be wildly insecure, which is incredibly unattractive. Never violent. Often, they're big teddy bears, in part because of the insecurity (also, a fair chunk of them are pretty submissive in bed... go figure). They also tend to be fairly possessive and loyal. The ones you'd need to be more wary of breaking your heart are typically the "tank top trainers". They're the shallow, vain, playboys. They train biceps and abs because they think that's what women like. It works. They use it to their advantage.
Obviously, these are all broad generalizations. There are good and bad in EVERY body shape/level of fitness. Just like there are good and bad in every skin tone, religious background, financial class... blah blah blah
My suggestion if you like muscle but not vanity... Powerlifters
