Okay, name in order 1-5 your favorite "James Bond" (i.e. Craig, Connery)

then name your top 5 Bond films.

I must admit, personally, I lost interest in Bond sometime after "A View To A Kill".

I felt it became ridiculous in the 90s with Brosnan.

I never thought it would be good again, but I have to say, IMO, Casino Royale despite some plot holes, really got me interested in Bond again, and Daniel Craig was absolutely great...really knocked it out of the park. That is how the Bond of the novels was supposed to be.

Craig brought almost an English Steve McQueen type quality to the role.

On the strength of that performance alone, I put him above even the original Bond, Sean Connery.

so my list

1. Daniel Craig
2. Sean Connery
3. Roger Moore
4. George Lazenby
5. neither Dalton or Brosnan were good enough.

----

Films

1. Goldfinger
2. Casino Royale (2006)
3. From Russia With Love
4. Dr. No
5. The Spy Who Loved Me

I agree, but on the basis of one outing, not quite enough to oust Mr. Connery.

  1. Daniel Craig - Sean Connery
  2. Sean Connery - Daniel Craig
  3. Roger Moore - George Lazenby
  4. George Lazenby - Pierce Brosnan
  5. Roger Moore
----

Films

  1. Goldfinger - Live and Let Die
  2. Casino Royale (2006) - check
  3. From Russia With Love - The world is not enough (Marceau and Richards and Cleese in one movie ... :biggrin1:)
  4. Dr. No - check
  5. The Spy Who Loved Me - Tomorrow never dies (Hatcher and Yeoh ... what can I say)

To be honest it's been a while since I've seen any Bond so my recollection of relative plot merits is shaky. However the opening scene of Live and Let die and the Voodoo underpinnings make it special.

I'm gonna go with:

Connery
Craig
Lazenby
Dalton
Moore

I know I get a lotta flack for saying this, but I though Timothy Dalton did a fine job as JB, and quite underrated in my opinion. Moore was a little too hokey for me, and Brosnan didn't even make my list. He had a good LOOK for the part, but that was really about it. Craig surprised me, he was excellent. The JB from the novels was cold, calculating and ruthless, and Craig really was a standout. But ya CAN'T beat Connery, IMHO - which brings me to my next list, the top 5 Bond movies...

My favorite 5 Bond movies are:

Thunderball
Goldfinger
From Russia With Love
Dr. No (enhanced by the lovely Ursula Andress)
Diamonds are Forever

Connery, Connery, and Connery.

Actually I also liked Lazenby (better than the others) though I was beginning to appreciate Brosnan as he seemed to age into the role and take on a more believable look for a guy who's been thru what Bond has been thru.

Craig to me is not Bond (in part because Bond has dark hair.) And Moore was just a slapstick joke Bond (imo).

Best movies?

You Only Live Twice
Her Majesty's Secret Service
The Living Daylights (the Bond girl was ditzy, but the plot, action and especially Aha's background and theme music were absolute)
Thunderball and From Russia With Love (even steven imo)

Worst??

Almost ALL of Roger Moore's movies ("Jaws", the overtired Southern Sheriff gimmick, the clown bit in Octopussy, the little guy in Man With the Golden Guy running around setting up an arcade like killing maze...EECHHHH!!...what total waste of film. The only one with anything resembling sensibility was "A View to a Kill" and even that had a slapstick like chase thru city streets on a firetruck, if I recall correctly).

Diamonds Are Forever (the beginning of the "stupid" ones - Wint and Kidd??...you gotta be kidding. This one seemed walked thru almost tongue-in-cheek like by Connery).

First Connery

Then Craig

Brosnan was okay- but simply did not exude that hardened killer feel...

All the rest were crap except David Niven in the original Casino Royale.

And i have to say that the bond films simply went way way way over the top way way early and became laughable caricatures

However... the recent Casino Royale with Craig was, in my mind, the best bond film of them all. Far grittier... far fewer ridiculous stunts.
