What is your favourite book turned movie or tv show?

I’m usually excited about the concept. Often if I hear about a book being turned into a movie I’ll make sure to read the book first.

I just watched the 2019 Pet Sematary movie. I’m so disappointed. It’s changed so so much from the book and spends zero time on character development, which is really important to the story line imo. Apparently Stephen King gave it praise.... if someone butchered my work like that I would not be happy.

I’m also interested to hear what anyone’s thoughts are on the movie who hasn’t read the book? Hopefully there don’t seem to be as many holes in it...

I will say I was pissed af when they did Watchmen after reading that book/comic book. What a disappointing movie.
I can't comment on the Pet Semetary because I have only read the book.
My fav book turned movie:
My answer is going to be disappointing but its The DaVinci Code.
I've been disappointed by too many movies to have too many favorites.
I can name more books that were made into movies that were horrible.

I'm a huge fan of author Christos Tsiolkas, so I enjoyed the movie/TV adaptions of 'Loaded', 'The Slap'*, 'Dead Europe' and 'Barracuda'.

I think 'Head On' (the movie of 'Loaded') is my favourite. When the book came out, I was nearly the same age as Ari (the lead character) - I connected with Ari's sense of isolation as a gay youth. Even though our lives were quite different (he's a Greek boy from the inner-city having lots of random sex, I'm a white boy from the country who never saw any action, lol), that feeling of being different and not quite fitting in was something I identified with.

*I only saw the Australian version of 'The Slap', I didn't see the US version.

I can't comment on 'Pet Semetary' - I've never read the book or seen any of the films.

I saw the original Pet Sematary and thought it wasn't bad; it kept to the spirit of the book at least. I'll take your word that the remake isn't any good. Hollywood churns out nothing but cinematic loose stool nowadays, with their reliance on remake after remake and cornball superhero movies.

I will say that my hat is off to those who try to adapt a book to a movie as it is near impossible to capture all the nuances and subtleties of a book in a 90 or so minute film.

I actually thought Frank Darabont's adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist was done rather well. I haven't been to the movies since about 2003 but I saw it on DVD at a friend's house and was impressed. They did a great job of preserving the dark, apocalyptic, oppressive mood of the book and thankfully the CGI was used sparingly. They did deviate occasionally from the book, but not egregiously. The ending was actually far more grim than the book, which probably got a nod of approval from King, I imagine!

Hmmm. Silence of the Lambs maybe?

There's lots of good ones... Princess Bride, Jaws, etc, but Silence is one of my favorite films overall (whether adapted from a book or not).

Don't know if this fits exactly since the watchmen tv show isn't based off the book directly but i'm loving it. Not just because i'm black and it's nice to have sci fi stuff geared towards me but because it gives the long ended stories somewhere else to go. So far it's a 9 out of 10 for me. The latest episode had some problems.

Wasn’t a book, but columns from the New York Times. Modern Love. I laughed and cried. It was really, really good.

I enjoyed the book, “Catch-22.” Was so excited to see the series, and then hated the first episode because it wasn’t the book. But by the third episode I couldn’t stop watching. In the end, I loved it.

I'm enjoying the TV show immensely as well. I liked the last episode a lot :p

Don't really know where else to put this one either since i didn't actually read the books but i feel it's good enough that people will like it. Anyway, the expanse. It's back. It's on amazon prime. And i just accidentally binge watched the entire new season. Was like a many movie.

Probably going to go with Under the Red Hood which is based off of the Graphic Novel of the same name. It follows the return of Jason Todd to Gotham and what would happen if Bruce Wayne was a killer. To me this is a great movie with fantastic voice actors and a fantastic adaptation.
