Well, I definitely think people are born inherently attracted to certain things. I don't think it quite matters how people are born gay we should learn to just accept people for who they are.

Sexuality is definitely not a judge of character.

I think the reason that many people believe it is a choice to be gay is that most people have SOME degree of attraction to their own sex. If they feel a small attraction that they can ignore with ease, then they would feel that gay people are the same but just choose to "give in" to this attraction.

    However sexuality is a continuum.

And then there's the group of people who think that only adolescents experiment with their sexuality, so homosexuals must be people who haven't grown up and are still experimenting.

You wouldn't believe how common this belief is, as explicit statements and as subtext, where I live.

NCbear (who wonders how many years it'll take before he's considered "an adult" by his extended family as long as he doesn't have children)

All this stuff is very very interesting. I would love to learn why so many gay males suffer from depression and take illicit drugs. I don't believe for a second that it has to do with feelings of shame and humiliation. After all, the statistics show that they are using drugs at an equal rate as they did before America became so much more accepting. That would indicate that it is something else. This stuff sure is interesting. Way more interesting than the overdone thread, "is my cock big enough".

I still think it has a lot to do of the feelings of shame and humiliation. Despite how much more accepting people are, everyone is still raised to believe that only people of opposite sex should be together. So their friends and family still love and care about them, but they still feel like they're doing something "wrong". And I know a lot of parents how there who are accepting of the gays that they work with or see at the gas station, but become appalled when one of THEIR children winds up gay.

I can see that being realistic. I can also see guys being ashamed because they feel they have to hide who they are.
