I've been a real fan of Weeds the Showtime series.

This seaon the show's changed venue so abruptly and completely that it's tough to recognize what's going on.

During last night's episode the oldest son "Silas" said to his younger brother "then what are you doing here. Get your faggy ass up those stairs and do those girls!"

Two fifteen year old girls (of course) awaited a nearly pre-pubescent little troll and the next scene featured the two adolescent girls touching each other.

Between the bullshit of the sumbliminal suggestion of female bisexuality being the accepted norm and brother Silas' homophobic remark I'm done with the fucking show (Mary Louise Parker and Elizabeth Perkins notwithstanding).

This shit's just not funny anymore.

It's like someone in production said "we gotta make this show more appealing to heterosexual America".

The previous episode had featured a picture of Hunter Parrish's ass (Silas Botwin) as he ate out what they're calling a MILF on the show:

1) Hunter Parrish shirtless

2) Hunter Parrish of Weeds (fleeting) fame:

a lot goes on in hollywood. there is a lot of talking through the scripts of these shows.
everything you see on screen is intentional, and has probably been discussed. though that doesn't mean everyone working on a show agrees with it. the executive producer on any given show might very well be gay, even if homophobia or homosexual stereotypes run rampant.
these guys are pretty savvy and believe me it's all about money, except for the rare
exceptions where they let something quasi artistic or groundbreaking through (as a feature film) so it might win an academy award (prestige) and even then it's still all about money. it IS a business.
many people think it's more than that, that's just falling into their hype.

boycotts can bring publicity which can bring higher ratings. which brings in the money.
some advertisers don't want controversy however, so a boycott can be effective that way.
in any case it's probably a win win situation for the studio.
hate to burst anyone's bubble, but unfortunately the same it now true of the network news broadcasts, if you want anything close to truth in the news, best to get it from a variety
of sources on the internet.

a lot of television is becoming like soft core porn in the guise of a cop show, where the cops have to stop this terrible
menace (the porn industry) while they show scantily clad nearly minors in voyeuristic clips on the show. they know exactly what they are doing. it all gets high ratings for the networks. $$$$$$. name your menace of the week and
the same rule of thumb holds true, you can show all the sex, drugs, and perversion cause the cops are coming after it.

and, no i'm not in that business, just have some friends who are.

You're getting up in arms about the writers because they have characters with personality traits that you don't like, despite their being realistic? Teenage girls act bisexual because they think it's the norm and that it will get them attention. And a young straight man said "faggy." Also rather typical. (Though I've usually heard "faggoty.") Did you boycott American History X, too?
Ned Flanders called. He wants a hand crossing all the Goshes and Darns out of his kids' Hardy Boys books.

I have always loved 'Weeds' but I do think that this season is pretty weak so far. I really hope it hasnt 'Jumped The Shark' just yet as I read online only a few hours ago that Showtime are hoping for at least another 2 seasons from it.

I personally dont find what you detailed particularly offensive, as it is totally within the level of expectation for the show.

Just another example of how Hollywood is in 'la-la land". Hollywood really does not make movies or TV for the people. And it's not all about $, but also the studios agenda on the public. It just keeps getting worse as they force feed stuff down our throat hoping we will just get 'used to it'. Over-marketing AND hyping on movies; and a lot of repeats for new TV shows. It is getting rare to find stuff that is entertaining anymore or makes you glad you watched it in the first place.

well, i decided not to bring up the agenda part. that's very astute of you.
glad someone else out there is paying attention to what's going on and isn't brain dead.
and i won't post anything else regarding whose agendas and why, people need to figure that one out
for themselves. they can start by finding out who really owns the studios and networks. follow the money.
this thread was about "weeds", i don't want to be accused of hijacking the thread. sorry, Juunet. i'll be quiet now.

Blah blah blah, I'm offended, blah blah.
I hate when people do things that I don't absolutely endorse. I wish all television was censored or rewritten to reflect the G-rated world we all live in.

I wouldn't say I have boycotted the show, but I have lost interest in it.

Amazing how those fresh, bold TV concepts can lose steam over a mere couple of seasons.

Fortunately, my lost interest is saving me 60 bucks a month, as Weeds sucking prompted me to drop my premium cable package.

Hmmm! What can I do with the money saved...

There are two words in this society StapledShut that I find are tools of human diminishment and de-humanization. One is "Fag" (or faggot in any of its forms) the other is "nigger".

It's my opinion that both should be stricken from use both by the gay community and straight across the board. They serve no real purpose but to reinforce negative stereotpyes.

But I'm no prude.

There was once a time when it was 'typical' for a young straight man to say "nigger" as a matter of course. Fortunately that nasty term has been eradicated from the air waves. I only expect the same for all forms of "faggot". Both words have identical impact.

(your sarcasm is dulty noted and really has no place in this discussion_

Now that you say it you're right. The expectation from previous season is was high but this season's abysmal. From a quirkly clever and well-written show it's become a parody of itself. Good point.

And I wish they'd stop focusing on the sexual interests of Shane on the show. Last week featured the little troll found whacking off to his mother's photos. Between the arrogance and nonchallance of Parker's character and Celia's varying addictions the plot makes no sense any longer..

Sylas was trying to help his little brother. It was actually a very sweet moment, considering the extenuating circumstances.

Basically, Sylas' lil bro found old boudoir photos of his mother. He started masturbating to them. After this was discovered, his family tried to help by getting the him laid. It might not be the best treatment, but at least they cared.

Shane can be a handful too...Don't get me started on his terrorist videos...

Weeds is a work of fiction being broadcast on the Showtime network that abhors censorship. I appreciate the existence of such networks which exhibit bold, daring films uncut and commercial free. If I dislike a show I simply change the channel instead of calling for someone's artistic work to be banned. To illustrate a homophobic or racist character in fiction it is understood that the writer would use words of that nature.

You can peruse these threads to see lpsg discussions in which the word faggot was used in the context of discussing homophobia and as part of the homophobe's vocabulary:

Sylas was trying to help his little brother. It was actually a very sweet moment, considering the extenuating circumstances.

His name is spelled Silas and there's nothing "sweet" to a gay man hearing a scripted actor say "get your faggy ass up those stairs..." Sweet? No. Typical yes. And sadly so.

Basically, Sylas' lil bro found old boudoir photos of his mother. He started masturbating to them. After this was discovered, his family tried to help by getting the him laid. It might not be the best treatment, but at least they cared.

My father was attractive when young. Had he had nude shots taken I can assure you that I'd not have choked my chicken to them. This is just shy of incest folks and you rec3000 are calling it "sweet".

That combined with this preposterous theory that female teenaged girls are all over each other (when quite the reverse is the case.. it's the males blowing each other) makes the show a pandering of its former past.

This (as one poster said earlier) is all about $$$ and appealing to a straight double-standard male audience who has the audacity to believe that women are more inclined toward bisexuality than men.

If I dislike a show I simply change the channel instead of calling for someone's artistic work to be banned.

Though calling for a ban was perhaps a bit extreme I know I'm done with it.

There are many good shows on the pay channels. Weeds was among the best. It not longer is.

And I've not only changed the channel dreamer. I'll never watch the bloody thing again. Mary Louise Parker's indifferent and haughty nonchallence is beginning to grate on my gay nerves.

At least Perkins is real.
