I wear them b/c they hold everything in place , if I wear shorts everything flops around and that can be very uncomfortable and even dangerous. They are also very flattering on me or so I've been told :) . They also let you move faster in the water .

I wear them to swim duhhhhh lol

Don't recall WHEN I first wore them , I dont wear them as much today b/c my balls and scrotal sac is much bigger than it was and it looks obscene, so I never wear them around family, then I wear square-cut suits or speedos (for control) under board shorts . I wear them when I am with friends though .

My initial reaction was whoaa this is vulgar, I can't get away with wearing these in public especially with all the redneck guys wearing nothing similar, however the lifeguards wore them so there ya go lol

Found the speedo pics and here they are, this is before the days of pumping (circa 96 or 97) and everything would still fit !

two things will have a huge impact (as others have said)

1. It has to be positively influenced and encouraged by pop culture and media- athletes, pop stars, television/movie actors, etc.

2. It has to roll in the fashion cycle of being a reaction to something different than what was popular before- so given a little time baggy long shorts will become short and form fitting again- and we're on the way back to those.

FWIW, my wife and daughters are completely turned off by guys in Speedos.

And no, it doesn't matter if he's got a gut and is hairy as Chewbacca. They feel the same way about Olympic swimmers.

You need to change the cluture
Step 1) Get a bunch of famous people to start wearing them
Step 2) Only speedos in movies and ads
Step 3) Get people to be comfortable with themselves

There is always option 2 -- buying all the non-speedo gear that way you force everyone to wear speedos

Speedos arent indentity specific, just society shameful. That is to say, society doesn't agree that speedos look sexy on a guy so the mass of society just say "that ain't right". The only thing that can be done to get more men or whoever to wear them is for citizens of society to start thinking for themselves and not the masses. This was today's sociological comment from me.:biggrin1:

This makes sense. If you want the average person to wear Speedos, then show them sexy but similarly shaped famous people wearing Speedos.

Tom Arnold springs to mind. So do Paul Teutel Sr and Jr.
