Wow! As simple as soap and water?

I doubt it is really that simple.

Bolsonaro is Brazil's Donald Trump. Remember what Trump suggested for fighting the Notre Dame fire? About raking the leaves in California's millions of acres of forests to eliminate forest fires?

The article (or another, I don't recall) says most of the amputations are the result of penile cancer. Not sure how much soap and water would help with that...

Maybe it's a cultural thing about lack of overall hygiene? I am far from qualified to make a judgment. Don't have a clue only what was in the article

in Brazil we usually take more bath than in the rest of the world. the minimum is a 2 per day. This president just talks shit.

I travel to Brazil several times per year - my employer has a manufacturing plant there. I have also found that Brazilians take excellent care of their teeth, even interrupting the work day to brush after meals and coffee breaks.

I see that Wikipedia says that Brazil has a rate of penile cancer of 3.7 per 100,000 vs. 1.0 per 100,000 in the US.

PS: Copacabana beach is amazing!

shudder at the [other] P.A. thought!

Hmm to me it has to be something other than soap and water: there are so many remote, indigenous communities in the world (I have even visited one in the Amazon rain forest) where I'd expect to then see a similar problem. Unfortunately the article does not specify where in Brazil, however if it was in the remote areas I doubt they'd have the statistics, this leaving the developed / urban areas, where I would think less a chance of having a soap/water/penis problem...

HPV can cause penile cancer, as well as anal cancer too (and oral/esophageal and cervical). It's possible that HPV is causing these problems, it surely is on the rise when it comes to creating cancers

Maybe the cause for the high penile cancer rate is because of low circumcision rates. I would think that with improper hygiene is the cause of high penile cancer rates.

True, that is one of the primary reasons cited for circumcision - that it reduces the incidence of penile cancer.

Of course, now the anti-circumcision folks will come out of the sidelines....
