Kind of off-topic, but i recently got around to watching "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," which I expected to be a stupid adolescent movie full of fart jokes, but actually seemed like a pretty realistic description of single life in modern society. Except for one thing: At the end, when Steve Carell reveals to Catherine Keener that he's a virgin, I did not buy that she would so easily take it in stride. I think most normal women would be COMPLETELY FREAKED OUT by that. While the "freaky" women, like Beth the bookstore girl and the drunk driver -- whom the movie strongly implies would be bad for the main character -- would be more likely to accept his virginity.

I agree, but she was also a single mom which meant that many men would not want to be with her. (OK, somewhat politically incorrect to say.) But she got to know him a bit first, if I remember correctly, so maybe she was willing to give him a shot.
Another unrealistic thing was he wanted to stay with her after they had sex, but I think most men in his position would want to try out other women once they got over the first hurdle.

Just like women are suspicious if a guy has been single for a while, I think they would also be a little hesitant and scared to be with a virgin. If a guy has a girlfriend, then other women know that at least he must be somewhat normal for a woman to want to stay with him. Same thing with a virgin. If he has no experience then it sets off red flags, at least to some women. There must be something weird about him. Most women would rather go with someone safe than take the risk.

I would think that it would be the number of partners and attentiveness of the person, versus their virginity, that would be a much greater deciding factor. Maybe that's just me, being male, and all.
