I have noticed that the briefs style here in the USA that is popular is completely different from the brief style worn in other countries, especially across the middle East and Asia
In the USA, the most popular style brief is what is typically referred to as the "Tightie Whities" or in other countries, "Y-fronts" if you will. They have wide waistbands, sit tall on the waist, almost to the naval, and have a 2-layer fly crotch. They typically flatten men's stuff down. THese were the defacto underwear on most men from the 50's through the 80's', then boxers became popular. Nowadays, boxer-briefs are popular, which are merely this style tightie whities, but with long legs.
The briefs worn around the world by men however typically are different. Frequently referred to sometimes as "bikini briefs" or called "Manties" by Americans. Typically looking like an underwear version of speedos, they are usually pinned as "European style briefs" although I noticed many men in Europe are shifting more towards wearing boxer-briefs now. This style brief sit low on the hips, have a thin waistband, no fly. Many styles have a contoured pouch. Invaribly, when one sees a typical man in a state of undress or with exposed underwear(not an underwear model, or a man posing) in a foreign country, he has on this style briefs.
While the bikini brief became slightly popular in the 80's here in the USA for a short time, this style is largely not worn on this side of the pond. I find it odd, as this style seems to be the more comfortable type of brief, if briefs are the style one likes to wear. I have found it interesting that the two different styles diverged and developed differently. What are your thoughts on this? Personally, I cannot stand any "tightie whitie" style underwear, even if they are not white and not briefs either (IE boxer-briefs made in this style) A "rite of passage" for some guys growing up is to get the heck out of them, but others returned to wearing them as they get older for some odd reason!
