Like I said, every University in the UK wants to remain in Europe.
Well their finance directors sure don't!
Much research funding is through the EU. However the UK puts more into the pot than it gets back, so there are plenty of benefits in changing. Additionally EU funding almost always stresses a pan-EU dimension. Most funds go to two or more universities in different nations, and often funding has an overt goal of developing pan-European links. Come up with a project linking Wales, Portugal, Finland and Greece and there is more funding than you can dream of! It really does become the gravy boat. Lots of expenses paid trips. Lots of management meetings (= trips abroad for a bit of work and lots of socialising and site seeing.). Funding for university overhead. Funding for subsidised publication and distribution. Get your million euro grant and a very few thousands might actually be spent on research, but lots of jobs are supported. And of course people in this world love Europe.Europe pays the salary!
