Like I said, every University in the UK wants to remain in Europe.

Well their finance directors sure don't!

Much research funding is through the EU. However the UK puts more into the pot than it gets back, so there are plenty of benefits in changing. Additionally EU funding almost always stresses a pan-EU dimension. Most funds go to two or more universities in different nations, and often funding has an overt goal of developing pan-European links. Come up with a project linking Wales, Portugal, Finland and Greece and there is more funding than you can dream of! It really does become the gravy boat. Lots of expenses paid trips. Lots of management meetings (= trips abroad for a bit of work and lots of socialising and site seeing.). Funding for university overhead. Funding for subsidised publication and distribution. Get your million euro grant and a very few thousands might actually be spent on research, but lots of jobs are supported. And of course people in this world love Europe.Europe pays the salary!

Because, unlike the Conservative Party, Europe believes in the value of education.

In terms of EU grants to universities it needs to be pointed out that every single one is linked to building the European ideal. It is the biggest exercise in educational indoctrination ever. It is producing a lot of non-research, and a lot of deeply flawed research. If your job depends on proving pan-European links of shepherds in the early middle ages you will jolly well find some links!

The student mobilities are great for the students - but why should we limit them to Europe? More could be done with the same funding.

Victoria Bateman has a great lecture against Brexit here (nsfw):
Not quite sure what she's hoping to do but to me she's a flaccid overweight not very attractive naked lady who thinks exposing herself for a radio interview is a way of - what - remaining - leaving - me to - feminism - oh give me a break!

Insurance industry and aerospace say no deal brexit would be disastrous to them. No-deal Brexit risks 'economic crisis'

They also seem to be saying to avoid things like bankruptcy they need time to disengage from the UK. So even a 'deal' brexit might simply allow them to survive and continue operations in a different country. Not much better in the long run for the UK.

Article on the state of the Uk car industry. Carmageddon? UK auto after Brexit - UK in a changing Europe

10,000 jobs lost so far, plus those in the supply chain.
Investment down 80%.
Honda will no longer be building electric cars in the uk...but maybe now nor will anyone else.

The article makes an interesting comment, 'From the Japanese point of view there’s been a breach of trust."

We have betrayed the car companies because leaving the EU breaks the implicit promise the Uk made when they and other industries came to the UK. It wont just be the car industry.

Apparently the Uk has no pallets to use to place goods on to send to the EU. EU regulations say any pallets entering the EU must be treated against insects in case they introduce them. Ours arent, because they do not 'enter' the EU. But we couldnt in future send them to the EU.

One of the little perks of membership.

More immigration figures, reporting that as immigration from the EU has fallen what with brexit and all that, immigration from the rest of the world is going up.

Of course it is! UK employers need foreign workers and are asking them to come. Since the EU people dont want to come any more, they are getting more from elsewhere. All this illustrates is that the conservative government has no intention whatever of limiting immigration. It believes it is essential to the economy. It has always had the power to reduce immigration and has chosen not to use that power. If brexit happens, nothing will change about immigration because governments dont want to stop it. The EU never did stop us having policies to reduce immigration.

brexit lies once again.

Government planning to offer 3 year non extendable visas to europeans coming here to study...even though 1/4 of course last longer than 3 years. Scrap plans for No Deal visas
The universities seem a bit miffed at the govenments inability to count. And its now reneging on previous promises to give longer visas.
