Skull, remember that this is Britain has talent not USA has talent. They are two different worlds. Who knows what the future holds for her? Before television, some of the biggest singing stars were homely people. It was a big shock to a lot of people when they first saw big ole Kate Smith. For some reason, they thought she was physically attractive too.

I check myself, I heard her sing some other stuff really well. She does have a fantastic voice (I'm not debating that). I prefer her more bluesy voice.

LONG LIVE LORD LAMBERT HOWEVER.

Boyle has a remarkable feel for delivery. This latest song demonstrates her range and talent. If someone has the natural range for a song, anyone can sing one song well if they work at it. Boyle's not in that class. She's a true master. It's so odd. I find her voice has a lovely sweet quality that brings emotion to her songs without being overly dramatic. I'm not big on show tunes or torch songs, yet love the quality of her voice. I really would buy her CD just to listen to her sing.

Les Miserables is a high scale musical that approaches opera, but isn't considered to be opera by the purists. Boyle's voice isn't trained for opera, and though she sang "I Dreamed a Dream" superbly, I imagine she would need a bit of training in acting to perform on Broadway. Unless, of course, she has a natural gift in that area too.

I am interested to see what other songs will be in her repertoire and likely recordings.

It is silly to compare her to singers of other genres; she does what she does extremely well, in that song and the jazz standard "Cry Me a River".

I just saw the video on Susan Boyle, I only have four words to describe my initial reaction: I was blown away!!, what a voice, she has one of those rare voices that is so clear, so good, it can make the listener emotional hearing it, cause it moves you, that is a rare gift, she wont be unemployed for long, wow.

Well...let's pretend for a second I wasn't exaggerating. Care to name singers [particularly in a similar genre] that have a better voice?
open for discussion

It would be a short list.
Freddie Mercury, maybe.
And then lots of people whose voices are perhaps not quite as agile as Adam's, but whose singing conveys a little more sense of emotional truth.
Now, I gotta be careful here.
I think Adam conveys a wonderful sense of truth.
But I do get the sense that that's one of the myriad things he's efficient at.
On some level, I'm not quite convinced ... and I half think he doesn't want peeps to be entirely convinced, because it would be like a masterly actor truly disappearing into a role ... the sense of virtuosity disappears, as does half the sense of apprehending an extraordinary achievement.
But hey, Skull ... this is your music ... not mine so much.
You spout on, dewd.
Ahz lissenin'.

Anyone remember Bernadette Peters, Barbra Streisand, Julie Andrews?

These people became stars in a different era. The culture has become so hedonistic that physically unattractive people have trouble getting a break. Simon Cowell was honest when he said at her current weight Aretha Franklin would have trouble making it in the biz. Look at how much money peeps in the USA spend on trying to look hot. Look at how people judge someone on their appearance and the difference in the way they treat them. Try going into an expensive department store in regular jeans, a casual shirt, and sneakers. Then, go back another time dressed to the hilt. More likely than not, you'll notice a difference in how you're treated. Sad to say it applies to performers.
