Alright guys, let's talk the magic of theater!

I saw Catch Me If You Can in NYC this summer on Broadway, and it was AMAZING! Aaron Tveit and Norbert Leo Butz are both so talented.

So much fun! So much singing! And dancing! Classic story! Greatness!

Anyone seen other broadway shows or the same as me? Please do share!

If I lived near New York or had the money (and time) to visit occasionally for the shows, I'd love to see more shows although I'd probably be escorted out because of singing along!

Among my favorite broadway shows I've seen (or been in) on traveling tours are "Oklahoma", "How Now Dow Jones", "Annie", "Phantom Of The Opera", "Mame", "The Music Man", ""Hello Dolly", "Li'l Abner", "Best Little Whorehouse In Texas", "Bye Bye Birdie" and others.

I did rent "Naked Boys Singing" three times on DVD but it wasn't necessarily for the music! :biggrin1:

I've been meaning to post this for a couple of days... I loved
The Lyons! I'm thinking about going again!
The Lyons on Broadway
Linda Lavin still has brilliant comedic timing.

I saw a couple of commercials for this, they were amusing.....less amusing is how they do the commercials. They show 1, then another commercial for something else, then another for her show. It threw me the 1st time because it started the same way, then there's a different tag line. If I could get interested in going to the theater I might go and see it. Maybe PBS will be nice and run a live broadcast of it, kind of like they do with Live from Lincoln Center. I like these things I just don't like having to go and mingle with irritating people.

A friend of mine used to date Stephen Bates who was one of the writers and I was lucky enough to go to opening night, and then I knew someone who was in the show and I always see a show if I know someone in it. I was also invited to be a one of the members of a special show that had a naked audience. (I think I know the words to all the songs by heart) It was a fun show.

The trick around this is to go to weekday matinees after New Year's and before Easter.

Another show that I thought I would never need to see again was Evita; I saw Elaine Paige in the London production, and Patty LuPone in the original Broadway production (she was horrible in my opinion) And I saw the revival in London a few years ago. Long story short I have tickets next week to see it again. Ricky Martin is playing Che (If you would have suggested that 10 years ago I would have laughed) He is getting rave reviews so... we shall see. I will let you know how it fares for me the fourth time around.

Just saw Evita clips on the morning show today. Rickey Martin was great and the production number was very good. I had to laugh though at the interviewer who kept talking about this great couple in history and their amazing love story. I thought, "You do know the couple was the Peron's right?"

Side note Nudeyorker on P Lapone. I saw her in Gypsy and thought she was awful. Her acting choices were strange and was off from the character's place in the story. I like her and her voice but thought no more P for me. I liked her in Sweeny Todd though.

Cube after seeing Elaine Paige sing and play the role beautifully; Patty LuPone screamed her way through the show. It was a few years later and I was dating someone who had worked with her and I met her at a party.... and ... well... I should stop. But I will say to her credit. I saw her in London in Sunset Boulevard and she was perfect and should have played it on Broadway. I agree with you about Gypsy too. I saw Angela play the role in Sweeny Todd and just did not feel like revisiting it.

I've been meaning to post this... I saw Evita last week and they finally got it right after 30 some odd years of dress rehearsals. Elena Roger played the part beautifully and Ricky Martin made Mandy Patinkin look like a cartoon as Che. It's been so long since I have been this impressed with a show that I've seen multiple times. I still have a soft spot in my heart for the performance of Elaine Paige and the soundtrack by Julie Covington but I can't recommend this show highly enough. (I had front row mezzanine seats and I think Ricky Martin was cruising me a couple of times thinking about us living la vida loca!)

Over the past year I attended "An American in Paris" (great), "Hamilton" (different but too much of the same), "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" (lots of fun), "Book of Mormon" (2nd time because it's so zany), "Kinky Boots" (yuck). Good or not so good, it's always fun to get to Broadway.

Alright guys, let's talk the magic of theater!

Anyone seen other broadway shows or the same as me?

Just got tickets today (returns) to see The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams.
The production has come over to London for a limited run and has had some great reviews in the English press.

Last musical I saw was Gypsy with Imelda Staunton - what energy, timing and what a fantastic voice she has, utterly brilliant,
