I've never broken a rib or any other bone in my body myself (except for 2 toes), but my dad had broken 3 ribs at once when he was younger and he always told how MUCH it hurt.
So I'm sending well wishes your way and to a speedy recovery!!!!

Unfortunately, I'm required to cough just about hourly, despite the pain, because of possible lung damage/pneumonia. Ugh! Yuck!

Thanks for the kind words, though; they mean ever-so much.

OMG! Years ago when my son was really young (like 3) I had two lumps removed from my left breast and after I got home, he jumped in my lap and knee'd me in the left side of my ribs. I don't know if they were broken or not but that shit hurt like hell for weeks and to top it all off...I caught a cold and was coughing my head off. ouch, ouch, ouch!

For goodness sake don't sneeze! You'll damn near pass out from the pain. Get well soon, sir.

Get well soon Bb. And take care of yourself.

They say laughter is the best medicine. But I guess not for this. So don't read the 'texts from hillary' thread!

Get well soon mate

I hope I will, but broken ribs are just a sorta wait-and-see thing.

Oh Bb I'm so sorry this happened to you. I have been there too. In addition to the pain and inconvenince you can't cough, sneeze or laugh until you are well on the road to recovery. Consider yourself cyber-hugged.Hope they gave you some fun pain pills.

The pain medication is minimal (and not especially effective) because a really potent one (such as Percocet) could interfere with my breathing. So I'm stuck with Ibuprofen and the Tramadol. Plus the heating pad seems to help.

Get well soon baby!

I sure hope so, sweetheart: the sooner the better.

So sorry to read of your present dilemma. I hope every day is a better day for you and that you somehow recover more quickly than expected.

Thank you very much: you never know with these things. It's been nearly a week now since my fall, and the pain is still distracting.

Nnnoooo, I had to get my leg broken, becuase it was messed up. And after it heals, then the next one get broken ! :/

Yea-ouch! Sounds like your luck's worse than mine!

Never have had a broken rib but I'm sure it hurts. Good luck on your recovery.

I still haven't figured what triggers the pain, but I avoid any kind of twisting, as that inevitably causes me to wince in sudden, sharp pain.

Thanks for the reply.

One is bad enough, but three? I can't imagine.

Thank you for your well wishing.

My dad used to ski semi- professional when he was younger and had many many ski accidents. One time he broke his left leg in 9 different places at once including a shattered ankle! He had to stop skiing after that and was never allowed to do it again :frown1:
But yeah, he told me that the worst pain he had was with his broken ribs.
I am glad to hear that you have great friends that help you with things!

I'm barely able to walk around my apartment; I cannot imagine trying to deal with the pain and care for a toddler at the same time. You're one tough cookie!

:flowers1:

hey handsome,

have you tried smoking a J? :smoker:

If I could get my hands on some hash I'd gladly toke, due to the wonderful body-buzz. But MJ just leaves me stuck in my head, so I gave it up for good in my early 20s.

Hugs back.

I've played concerts on my bassoon with a bruised rib; no fun. But cracked? I would be out of work. Hope you heal quickly.

I trip all the time, due to tunnel-vision, but have been lucky thus far.

Yeah, I can't work right now, possibly for two weeks. I'm just glad that I socked a few pennies away.

I don't have tunnel vision, I'm just very clumsy

For goodness sake don't sneeze! You'll damn near pass out from the pain. Get well soon, sir.

FK

So far no sneeze. But when I need a productive cough, it's like I'm being stabbed in the gut. Sometimes just swallowing is enough to set it off.

Get well soon Bb. And take care of yourself.

Oh, I've clicked it already. It's funny in a smile-or-light-guffaw sorta way, but it's nothing like this:

I grew up skiing and never suffered anything worse than having the wind knocked out me. But I can recall being on an advanced trail I had no business being on more than once. Skiing's an extremely dangerous sport, made even more so when there are the added risks associated with competition.

You're right: I have some really wonderful and supportive friends.

I'm so sorry to hear you are in so much pain, Uncle B.

It's good that you have a good support network around you to help out though.

Thinking of you,
~Dragon.

Thank you, Drags. Right now there are four different friends who can help me out; I rotate them so they don't feel abused, but I also offer a bit of cash or a home-cooked dinner in an attempt to balance things out. I'd hate for anyone to feel put-upon, no matter how freely they offer help. That's just the way I roll.

Dang, good luck on your road to recovery. Hope it doesn't take the full 6 weeks.

Six weeks sounds about right. I spoke with my mother on the phone today, and she told me that pretty much the same thing happened to her; she also said that, although it gradually gets better, six weeks were required before she could resume her normal life.

I have the feeling that this is gonna be a long, hard slog.

Bb! Noooooooo!

Ugh the worst pain i have had, rib wise, was a bruise at the soft tissue juncture at the side. That killed! I can't imagine a break! Is it the very bottom one? That floating no attached one?

Sorry they can't Rx you anything stronger for fear of respiratory complications:frown:

I AM glad you have some friends who can help. If i were there I would be helping as well, though when I help, sometimes the person is worse off! (I am an uber klutz...in an attempt to aid my sis when she was vomiting horridly, I was cleaning out the puke pail and she was gonna barf again so I spun hurriedly around and ended up soaking her with hot water...mabe it's best that I am NOT there,) If i was there though, and not in clumsy useless mode, I would help.

Hoping you feel better, my friend. *very gentle healing hugs* to my Bb  and a kiss  i am also sending you virtual MS-Contin and Percocet. Virtual pills are non habit forming, and are safe even folk with respiratory distress. You can take as many as you want!

Get better Uncle Bb. *joins ML in kicking rise*

Yup: that's the one.

It totally blows goats. I'd give almost anything I have for a scrip of Percocets and some sort of Benzo. But these days that stuff's no longer dispensed like candy

This made me smile. Thanks: I needed that.

I'll take one tonight and the other as soon as I wake up. The pain this morning was so severe that it took nearly 20 minutes to get out of bed: seriously!

Gentle hug and kiss have been received and are most sincerely appreciated.

OUCH!

Here's to feeling better soon. Broken ribs are no joke.

*Passes Ice packs, Benadryl and Hydroxyzine to help ease the pain*

/Hydroxyzine and Benadryl will make you sleepy, but will enhance the effects of the Tramadol.

//Oh, BTW, there is another drug called Nucynta that is like Tramadol, but stronger, but not as strong as Percs and Vikes.

I'll ask my doc about Nucynta when he's back in the office next week; FWIW I take quite a bit of Benadryl due to nearly life-long sinus issues.

The heating pad feels better than an ice pack would (I think: haven't tried it yet). I just react so poorly to cold, especially after nine years in SoFla. I have a bag of green beans in the freezer, so I'll try it tomorrow.

Thanks for the advice and support.
