Madame Zora I can totally identify with how you were feeling. I'm sorry you had to go thru that, also. I too wanted my tubes tied after I had an ectopic pregnancy that ruptured my fallopian tube and caused me to bleed
internally. Never having been pregnant, I didn't know that bleeding wasn't a normal part of pregnancy. I had heard some women still have their periods thru nine months of carrying. I asked a friend if this was normal and she clarified that I needed to go to the hospital and be checked out.
To the hospital Jimmy and I went, I was stunned when they told me
I needed emergency surgery immediately.
My fallopian tube had ruptured from the fetus lodging there, and continuing to grow.I had lost a significant amount of blood. By this time I was unable to stand, was having horrendus stabbing pains, was bleeding now, outside of my body as well as internally. It was an altogether bad time, for me and Jimmy whom I blamed for this happening. Hey! I was only twenty-one and really immature!
After they took my tube and ovary, I felt a whole lot better.
But as they were making plans to do this ,surgery I asked them to please tie my tubes, as I never wanted to have children, ever. Plus, they told me after having one ectopic pregnancy,I might be more likely to experience this again, with my next pregnancy. Imagine my horror, at being told I would have to "maybe", do this whole scenario again!?!
Hence, my request for being sterile by choice! I was told then that under NO circumstances, would any doctor perform such an "ridiculous request"!{his words} I was informed that they {doctor} would be in jeopardy of losing his license to practise medicine, for performing an uneccesary surgery! Since, I was too young {21} and hadn't had at least three children no one would consider it.
All in all,I find it curious that doctors, will pick and choose which surgeries they deem uneccesary, for your body, not you, them!
Is it any wonder that I now have PTSD, caused by dealing with "doctors", according to my shrink!
I know this was a tad rambling, but I hate how everybody else, tells you what you, should be doing with your body!
The last time I got pregnant my then bf said well go get the coathanger, lets take care of this right now!
Sweet guy, huh?

*snip*Naughty and Hickboy, I didn't read anything in the OP that suggested everyone in the whole of the south agrees with this legislation, just that it happened in a southern state.
*snip*

The title, Jana. It doesn't say, "50 people spread across three states in the south", it says "the South".

You don't see me posting threads about "ethnic Hindu babykillers", do you? NO! It's because I don't even TRY to impose stereotypes on ANYBODY because of where they come from or where their ancestors came from.

It's not fair to start a sentence with "Blacks say..." or "All males are" or "Yankees think they can..." Do you not understand that? It's called labeling, and it is one of the slickest and nastiest ways to casually demean a person or group of people.

Okay, so you're nitpicking on the heading, which is only an indication of what the content will be, rather than addressing anything about the content? Do you really believe that I don't have to hear "Women do this, women do that" all day and all night, throughout my life? I get used to it, and pick my battles by the ones that matter.

There may very well be a clan of Hindu baby killers. If I'm not one of them, why would that bother me?

One only has to drive south to notice a difference in attitudes. Acknowledging reality is not a prejudice.

I put off bringing this topic up for a couple years until I was sure I was ready to discuss it, but several members here have helped me through, sometimes just be being there and letting me vent. Anyway, posting it here just came out, I sure wasn't planning it.

I'm horrified that you couldn't get your tubes tied, even to protect your own health! I'm also surprised to hear that several others have been affected by this medical opinion that women are not allowed to control their own reproductive organs. Abortion never had to be a part of either of our lives, nor the 40 to 50% of all women of child-bearing age, according to which study you read.

What makes me so angry that bile spews forth from my lips is that idiotic, moralistic legislators try to gloss over this FACT and try to present the issue as one that only affects slutty drug-using women. What a crock of horse shit. The truth is that inflaming public outrage on "moralistic" bases always works, because even though Joe sixpack knows his wife had an abortion before they got married- he told her to do it- he still feels free to pass legislation to stop his daughter from doing the same thing. Yeah, people just love to make rules that only apply to others. Fucking cunts.

Abortion: Just the Data

It's not just someone else's problem, it's nearly HALF of all women.

Ah, well. If only one could become by declaring oneself to be. The typical person's mind works this way:

"Prejudice is a bad thing."
"I am a good person."
"I, therefore, am not prejudiced."

Would that it were that easy. You are pre-judging people according to where they live. It's prejudice.

Funny thing is, I've traveled up north and find the ratio of assholes to good people about the same as it is anywhere else. Wonder if we both live in the same country...

When somebody else does it it's nitpicking. When you do it it's rigorous honesty.

Oh, no- let me give you some more of my "acknowledging reality" before you say that.

I am more likely to have a door opened for me in the south than in the north.

I am more likely to have a conversation with the cashier at a gas station in the south.

I am more likely to find women who take great pride in preparing meals and caring for a home in the south.

I am more likely to encounter rudeness in the north.

I am less likely to be smiled at or waived at by a stranger in the north.

Now, none of these are "rules"- meaning that it is true of every individual person. There are certainly proud homemakers in the north, and women who don't give a shit about housekeeping in the south. I am saying that more traditional values are still more prevalent there than here, and some of those traditions are outmoded. Many of those traditions still seem to serve people very well, but it's a fair thing to address the ones that do not. Everyone is aware of the concept of keeping women "barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen" and only the daft deny that this attitude is more prevalent in the south. It doesn't mean EVERY southerner feels this way. I would think southerners who do not would be even more eager to be rid of this thinking, so they'd be interested in NOT seeing it passed into legislation, especially there!

edit- the "barefoot" attitude is also prevalent in rural Ohio, so believe me, I KNOW it's not "just" a southern thing.

Abortion Measure Heads To Governor

I'm almost too angry to even make a coherent post. When will they learn that it is unneccesary (and impossible) to control female sexuality? I do believe that's what's truly behind anti-abortion movements. If it were really about saving lives, why did they take so long to make it legal to simply abandon unwanted babies with law-enforcement officials, and firefighters? I remember being a little girl when I first heard the suggestion being debated at my supper table. Pro-life has never been about babies, it has always been about controlling women, and the women who have been blinded and who would deny their sisters the right to control their own bodies sickens me.

These new tactics equate to terrorism. How dare these fucking bastards!? Read:

The bill also tightens consent laws for minors and requires abortion providers to perform a sonogram and give the pregnant woman an opportunity to listen to a fetal heartbeat. It is just one of several abortion laws being considered across the country.

South Carolina lawmakers this week discussed a measure that would force a woman to view ultrasound images of the fetus before undergoing an abortion. In Oklahoma, a House committee on Tuesday approved several abortion measures, including one that would define abortion, in part, as a procedure in which a drug is injected into a fetus' heart to cause death.

And in Kentucky, a bill being considered would require that a woman considering an abortion be informed that at 20 weeks an "unborn child has the physical structures necessary to experience pain." The normal gestation period is 40 weeks.

This makes me feel very confrontational. I'm contacting the ACLU to find out what they plan to do.

I have read this posting. I think that this is a very compelling topic. I think that this brings up a lot of issues. Female reproductive rights. Regard for the child. Fathering.

A woman shouldn't have a kid if she doesn't want it. If the father of an unborn child doesn't want a kid either--then abortion is the way to go. The thing is I think that if the father wants the kid and the mother doesn't want to have a kid. I think that the father should compensate the woman. Maybe, the woman could give up her rights to the kid as well. If the father wants the kid, he has to compensate the woman somehow. If she is inconsolable and immalleable in her positon--then, the guy has to deal with her decision. You shouldn't be involved with a woman who would want to abort your kid in the first place. (Wear a rubber. Use a Nonoxynol-9 spermicidal lubricant.)

I think that women have had it hard with guys. I have seen a lot of women quit high school to take care of the kids alone without the father. It is sad. Men can up a leave a woman after knocking her up. That is fucking messed up.

Then again, I think that men have it hard too with women. When you divorce women. During that marriage, you have kids... The court does give the mother the kids. The house. Leaves the man with his cock and balls...
sometimes. Hehehe.

A father does get visitation rights.

It seems to me that if you ever want to have children in this world, you really ought to have some deep discussions about birth control, family planning, abortion issues, and etc. I also think that people should really think about these things before you have unprotected sex.
