Bully hunters

Firstly, yes, I know bullying is not just something women deal with. That being said, this particular article is predominantly in relation to what women deal with in this case. I'm not putting this in Politics or Etc. I welcome and encourage anyone on here to read the article and/or post in this thread. It's sad I have to make disclaimers like this damn near any time I try to talk about shit on here, since inevitably there will likely be some men that pop in here to derail into oblivion.

https://www.pcgamer.com/elite-women-gamers-team-up-to-destroy-online-bullies-and-abusers-in-csgo/

An excerpt from the article:

"The Bully Hunters are prepared for the possibility of retaliation and are putting measures in place to combat that. They will not purposely incite or encourage additional harassment or abuse, and will only engage with harassers through gameplay, eliminating them from the game using their skills and talent,"

Another excerpt:

The Bully Hunters claim that more than 21 million female gamers have reported in-game sexual harassment, "including extreme threats of sexual violence and death," and while that number is an estimate, the prevalence of abuse obviously is not. Yet all too often it's brushed off as mere trash-talk: Inevitable, but harmless.

Pretty neat, I think!

Surely the problem with this is what is likely to happen after the "bully hunters" have made an example of someone and then moved on to their next bully.

Indeed, but I think it's better than doing nothing, for one. For two, maybe it can bring attention to how wide spread the problem is, similarly to how some people have been so shocked at the prevalence of sexual assault victims from #MeToo.

Yassssss. I love the idea of Bully Hunters. I love the idea of these INCEL twats being jettisoned from their own stomping ground. By a woman no less?

The term tickled pink has never applied more. :imp:

And ladies' stomping grounds too ;) Lots of females out there who play games. I like co-op better than single player for a lot of games, but for a whole host of reasons I stick exclusively to co-op with friends of mine. Between the "OMG show me ur tits" to "imma sexually assault you and shit on your corpse" to just awful fuckers who exploit/cheat........... Nah, I'll pass.

This particular bit, I love "will only engage with harassers through gameplay, eliminating them from the game using their skills and talent". I kind of hope they don't communicate at all with the harassers, just wreck them repeatedly and move on. Don't give the bullies any material to work with.

I know many a gamer e femme. I myself like to play the video games on the old flicker box. But to the INCEL twats, they consider gaming to me No Country for XX Chromosomes. They attack women, not based on skill or a lack there off, simply based on the person being female. I've seen the death threats, the rape threats, the doxing threats. I have seen women teamed up on in gameplay just to drive them out. It's fucking ugly.

While I love the idea of a gender anonymous assassin-style drive-by on an asshole. The extra burn of being destroyed by a person with tits, tits they won't show you? OMG! that is fucking sweet!

eta: not all women have boobs or double X chromo. :)

I almost exclusively do co-op gameplay for my multiplayer (still doin Monster Hunter World right now) so even though I've been playing online games for 25 years I feel like I'm a a bad person to give anecdotal experience because co-op is so much less toxic than player -vs- player. It is always good to hear about griefers getting their just desserts though.

So tell me why the US elects a Bully as a President?

Being what the rest of the world looks up to as the leading democratic nation, country...and you sending troops to die all over the world and all.

Should we follow your lead where everyone should just have the right to own any weapon to blow each other away?

Who is the Bully? I always saw the Bully at school as the person with the biggest gang, or the strongest person who thought they could control others.

I saw/see ...

myself as a ...See/saw person who told them to get stuffed. Much like here...those who think they are popular, tend to bully others opinions...........Why?

Yes, I am a Bully Hunter.

Bully hunting, to you, means exercising your male priviledge to try and derail a thread that a woman has started in the women's issues forum to talk about treatment of women in the gaming community so that you can instead talk about US military policy instead of starting your own thread?

Gotcha.

Take your post to the Politics section where it belongs. Go derail somewhere else.

Vibzie, what up, dude? Ya know I love ya, but ya so bugging up this thread.

Yes, Trump and the American Military Complex are total ass-butts. No denying America is an international turd-in-the-sandbox.
This thread isn't about that. I would bet money none of the participants are Trump supporters.

Video Game harassment might seem very first world problem. But women face the same resistance and mistreatment in many aspects of American life. Specifically in the tech industries. Which relates back to video games which are often an entry point of interest for those in the tech field.

I used to play Team Fortress 2 with random people. I also used to play Borderlands and Left 4 Dead games with randoms. I haven't done so in several years because the fun I had was minuscule compared to the amount of bullshit that had to be dealt with.

How did the sexist stuff play itself out? Like people would private message you hateful stuff when they found out you were female?

People sending messages, voice chat being absurdly toxic (because fuck me for wanting some strategy and to know what team mates are up to, apparently), and even the not-so-subtle shade that is thrown at some people for not playing the "right" kinds of games. I didn't originally play FPS and I had males act like I wasn't really into video games because of it.

I watched the FB live thing shortly after it happened. Some of the comments posted were almost exactly like what we see here. "This isn't a gender thing. Men get harassed too" and sexist comments like "they shouldn't be gaming, they should be in the kitchen". Pathetic.

Our culture is going to shit. This isn't just about the bullying. I would venture that a large percentage of this comes from little boys that have grown up living in their mothers basement, with zero social skills

We lose our mind over how looking at sex or a set of tits on the internet will turn us into perverts, but can't make the mental leap for violence.

People spend countless hours in front of a monitor watching the "cherry mist"; it's not just the guns we need to reign in.

For the latter, it's about parenting, grasp on reality, and personal accountability. I play and have played an absolutely massive amount of video games across all genres. I don't bully people, threaten people, say that I wish people would die or be assaulted, etc. People have been bullies since long before violent video games, movies, tv shows, and the ilk were around.
