yes it was mainly cause of ww2, but that doesnt mean that i tryd to say we dont have any problems with racists in germany now...
I never sayd so and i would say you def. interpretated to mutch in my last sentence.

Where do you lived in germany? And i dont think that the "neger" thing was the main thing you noticed about germany.
Also you have to understand that a lot of older people dont understand that the word "neger" could hurt a black person.
They useually dont know where this word comes from, they use it cause they dont know it better. (that doesnt mean, that everyone who use the word, doesnt knows it better) - not even 2 month ago my mother asked me how to call a black person... She only knew that "nigger" wasnt okay (cause americans didnt use it) but she asked, is neger is also forbidden...
But you are right, some germans realy have a problem with the turks...

My second thought: Stereotypes make people uncomfortable. Why? Because the same people that believe blacks should "forget the past and move on", or (on the flip side) that they "shouldn't complain because they have every opportunity in the world" are the very same people who "use" these sorts of stereotypes to dangle in front of blacks like a proverbial carrot. At a company barbecue, I had a white man hold up a piece of watermelon over his head and (loudly) ask me (in front of everyone at our table, no less) if I wanted some. I said, no, I didn't--did he want me to go pick up my 15-year-old nephew so he could kidnap him, kill him, eat half of him and store the rest of his body in a vat of formaldehyde? He was shocked, he was pissed--and he was hurt. As I ate my potato salad daintily, he insisted on letting me know that what I said was unnecessary and "over the line"--so I asked him why he'd ask the only black person present if they wanted watermelon, and if it was "necessary", too. I told him that I knew what he tried to do and that it was neither funny nor appropriate. He didn't say a freaking thing in response to that.

Just as I have never liked watermelon, it equally as likely that he never has or never will murder, rape and eat a child. But it's the negative connotation associated that's so divisive and damaging.

I agree.

Stereotypes have SOME basis in reality...and there is some overall subtext that there is something bad about being the "stereotype". I think that the commercial wasn't racist...I actually think that the new BK commercials are kinda pathetic. Burger King never had the edge on THE PERFECT FRIED CHICKEN anyway. They are known for their flame broiled burgers...not flame broiled fried chicken.

(Mary J. Blige, David Beckham and Jay Leno...)

I am a black guy. I like delicious chicken....whether it be fried, roasted, grilled...as long it is safely prepared and cooked to food safety measures. I am not completely a stereotype. I try to do different and try different things. But other than that...I am black by racial demographic.
