OK, he's old dead Hollywood, but last night on the Retro Channel they showed The Swimmer, one of Burt Lancaster's last hurrah starring roles from about 1968 in which he plays a Greenwich, Connecticut county resident who decides one summer weekend to swim the county from his house and back via all of his neighbors' back yard swimming pools. The guy had to be older than me when me (57) when he made that film, but Beets and Cheese Whiz! He had the most exquisitely toned swimmer's body and filled out one of those elastic fabric men's swim suits (navy blue) and showed off one Hell of a package that I'm surprised the film censors of the day gave the film a PG rating. They would give him an NC-17 rating today, I'm certain of it.

I've never been a great fan and have a few frontal porn shots of him from the early 40's friends have sent me. But by all the powers of the cosmos he was definitely one hot lucious man. Nice tan line, too, when he takes off his trunks to ask his senior-citizen nudist neighbors to let him "swim through" their property.

Has anyone else seen this odd bit of film history. I'm thinking he must have just recovered from a complete face lift before filming. Great face (although a bit tight), gorgeous sparkling blue eyes.

PS: There's a cameo appearance of Joan Rivers when she was still young and reasonably good-looking towards the end of the film. Who knew?

I saw that when it came out. I saw it a few years ago on AMC. Interesting man...If you want a good read buy Burt Lancaster An American Life by Kate Buford.

An interesting man, very manly & handsome with a streak of both beauty and vulnerability, all qualities that were so evident on screen and make you wonder and adore. He gradually became such a fine actor. Worked well with that incredible (gay) italian director Visconti, the latter film from mid-70's quite revealing.

Thanks, nudeyorker, for links to basically the same photos that I've received. And I'll check out An American Life if I can find a copy of it down here. I remember the great scene in From Here to Eternity where Lancaster and Deborah Kerr roll around sucking face in the bubbling surf, but it never really did much for me. After all, Deborah Kerr? That's like trying to give Mary Poppins a bloody proper rodgering! But that Lancaster guy, definitely grew into a major head turner as he aged.
