WASHINGTON - President Bush, stung by the rejection of his first choice, nominated veteran judge Samuel Alito on Monday in a bid to reshape the Supreme Court and mollify his conservative allies. Ready-to-rumble Democrats warned that Alito may be an extremist who would curb abortion rights

My primary concern is that the Supreme Court justice nomination will adhere to strict "originalist" interpretations of the constitution. And if they will then the death of Roe will flow from that. ;-)

"Reshape the supreme court and mollify his conservative allies"? How frightening. Where does the apellation "activist judge" fit into this equation? Why does he even bother with the formalities? Why not just appoint Ralph Reed and his clones to the supreme court, label anyone who complains as an enemy combatant, and just get them out of the way?
