Butter

    I was in conversation the other day when a man commented on butter. Turns out he first was introduced to butter as a child and since then has been unable to accomplish anything when he is out of butter.


    So, my questioning mind began to wonder-are there others who cannot function when out of butter? And what are your feelings about butter? Is it a midnight treat? An aphrodisiac? A sex partner? Does the level of yellow alter how you make decisions? Come on-tell us all about it. Has margarine ever proven to be an adequate substitute?

    I love butter, I'm not happy unless I have 5 or 6 pounds of backup in the freezer!

    I switched over maybe 15 years ago ..probably addicted to it now?
    Butter is far superior tho/just cant seem to get back into it/apart from my Baking
    Fonterra Nzs largest Corp and Dairy Products manufacurer (the 3 Directors in that China Milk Powder Melamine scandal should be prosecuted along with those Chinese currently being so)
    Assholes apparently knew all along/another Corporate cover up..all they were concerned about was losing there 43% stake..or whatever it was...GOOD job as the Assholes lost it all anyway..140mil?

    I switched to butter from margarine as soon as I moved out on my own many years ago. I just never liked the unnatural yellow color and the idea of putting something so unnatural into my body. :cool: I also prefer real sugar as opposed to sugar substitutes.

    Margarine, won't touch it. A proper sandwich to me has toasted bread with plenty of butter.

    That's why there was a can of Crisco next to everyones bed in the 70's...remember?

    I try to have salted AND unsalted butter on hand at all times. But if I run out, nothing untoward happens.

    If I run out of butter, nothing works. The car won't start, the TV won't turn on, the toilet won't flush.

    To prevent these tragedies I buy a new box as soon as I open a fresh package of butter.

    I rarely eat butter. I don't even like it on popcorn.

    But british butter! Not that anaemic stuff you get across the pond!!!

    This is one of the oddest conversations I've been a part of. I don'y have a preference. Butter, margerine, whatever. As long as it has a buttery taste, I'm good. Can't say Ireally even think about it. Though, come to think of it. If I do need it for some reason, and we're out, it is quite infuriating. Hmmm, intersesting.

    As a side note:

    Spot on K8. Over here you have to churn it yourself.

    lol nudeyorker. Back then I walked in on a mate lubing up with Dippity Doo for some bird. The visual is still troubling.

    Don't see what the big deal is.....I try to have butter as little as possible, doesn't seem like the healthiest thing to me.

    Wow. An entire thread devoted to butter.

    I think this means there's a definate lull in the conversation here.


    I guess the only substantive thing I can add to the dialogue is: don't substitute butter (or mayonaise) as lube. Even in emergencies. Butter, Crisco and mayonaise should remain food items.
