If you're into podcasts, please check out Butterfly Effect. Pretty fascinating stuff about the effects of streaming Porn Tubes on men and society. I would love to hear what your takeaways are from it. I'm half way into it.

I didn't know that most of the porn watching peaks on Sundays (when church is) and after major holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving - when men are finally away from their wives and families.

Other sundry effects, a huge rise in purchased high-end love dolls - because many men feel they are settling in their real lives. They're not satisfied with the real women they meet. The girls they take home at 2am from the bars are not as attractive and don't do as many things as the girls they watch in porn videos.

Also, in one episode, he describes the filming of a gang bang porn scene with Casey Calvert with several other male actors. Apparently, even though they are in the same room with the REAL Casey Calvert, the male actors have to go to pornhub on their phones to keep themselves erect.

Also, the military is studying the effects of porn on soldiers. because they are complaining that they are coming home to their wives and can't get erections. this not only affects their home lives but work performance.

Birth rates are lowering and millenials are apparently less sexual than ever it posits. All possibly due to the fact that streaming porn is deadening our senses.

Basically, we are the first generation where we can go and watch any porn style type kind at the click of a button on our phones and laptops; anywhere and anytime.

all fascinating stuff about how streaming porn is changing how we think and live. I would be curious if anyone else is checking out this podcast and what their takeaways are...

I've considered trying to kick the habit many times, but I feel like I'm not a problem user (I probably watch twice a week for an hour or less), and I don't feel like it's adversely affected my relationships. Maybe as I get older or if I'm I'm a LTR it'll be different, but sometimes it feels like a nice quick, efficient way to get off, which I think we all agree should happen every now and then

You do it right. Many guys fall down a rabbit hole when they're watching porn online, and lose track of time, and need ever-increasingly hot images to stimulate themselves.

I agree. I've fallen down the rabbit hole a few times myself. I can only speak for myself but it was fascinating to hear how this may be affecting others as a broad sociological dynamic as well.

they also talk about this effect called the "yes ladder" where for example Ashley Madison would cross advertise and promote on PornHub, so that some guy or husband, would be watching porn and see an Ashley Madison AD and feel emboldened to click and join Ashley Madison as a direct result.

Sure. please let me know what you think. Please know I'm not espousing any of its views. I just found it interesting and wanted to share and see if others had thoughts. I researched Ronson who created it, who may not be the most pedigreed journalist; but then again, who is nowadays?

All the points in it are taken however from quotes from those in the Biz, on the front lines; who would certainly know more than me.

He apparently too is releasing a podcast in a week about the controversial death of August Ames.

Also one of the examples in the series is a guy named Dick Dabone (I think) The guy was a male porn star who said one of his nerd/tech friends told him to get out of the biz -- its going down the tubes. So he trained, studied, certified, as an EMT; got a job saving people's lives in Hospitals, and then when people started recognizing him, was fired by HR because he was a huge liability to the Hospital -- they said that if any woman blinked and wanted to sue him and the hospital, lawyers would use his porn past to sue them and win in court. So he was fired. All very sad.

They said that apparently only 25-30 girls work CONSISTENTLY in Porn - they're called Spiegler girls. To be a Spiegler girl is somehow a badge of honor. Spiegler says he only hires girls who love sex and money; which will insure they show up reliably on set.

SpieglerGirls, Inc.

anyway, lots of eye opening facts about the porn biz. I and maybe we spend a lot of time watching this stuff and it's important to have context to it and know the REALITY of what REALLY goes on and what this beast is.

This is very interesting. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Also, another fascinating thing. He interviews a girl from the east coast who moved to LA to do porn. She's not a Spiegler girl so she averages 3 shoots a month. In other words, she works three days a month. So she spends a lot of time playing video games and hiking - cheap activities to pass the time. She also mentions how it's easy to make extra money escorting...

She also talks about how she learned the hard way from producers and agents that in her Twitter feed to ONLY post about how much she LOVES sex and the upcoming scenes she's doing. That nobody wants to hear about a bad day she's having or anything else.

Again, I just find it fascinating what a charade it is we're fed. How it's easy to forget this is all an act. And none of this is real or natural. You know? But yet because it's so omnipresent, it's easy to misconstrue or believe this IS natural. This IS how women behave. But it's not true at all. All this porn in society, in our lives has to have an affect on us as men, whether we're consciously aware or not...

Yep.

(a side thought: I suppose the girl you mention could have an pseudonymous twitter feed too where she vents her real feelings...)

Thanks for sharing.

Many reasons I don’t like porn that you’ve mentioned.

I like sex. There is a massive difference IMO between homemade content (even if shared to make money) and the professional stuff - although the lines are increasingly blurred!

Hopefully people can avoid falling down a rabbit hole and openly engage with their sexuality and with their partners.

A big issue is having an "addictive personality". Falling into drug, alcohol, and gambling addictions as well can be an issue.
I agree, having an addictive personality is a huge issue for many people. If I remember there was an interview with Ted Bundy just days before he was executed and he warned of the dangers of being addicted to porn.

The first part is sales 101 - always be positive!

And you're very right that most things are an illusion. I think that is why amateur porn originally took off.

I live in what used to be the "porn capital" here in LA (now moved global). I used to see several adult film actors at my gym. They kind of kept to themselves. I think once your in "the biz" you're running with a small group as others outside of the community would never understand. Sadly on man who I got to know a bit took his own life after a very successful career producing adult films. He suffered from serious depression. The industry had a dark side to it. I think with the advent of simply uploading vids from average couples, things are less sketchy and they just enjoy the voyeuristic aspect of sex on camera. Without the shady industry.

Well i think its kind of like what they discuss in the podcast with the former porn star who tried to go straight in the real world but he got fired from his EMT job. Guys think porn will be fun and exciting -- you get paid to have sex with beautiful women -- dream come true right? But reality is, you don't get paid much, and the women are just doing it for money, they don't care about sex. so at the end of a scene, what are you left with? 300$ and you having sex on the internet forever with some girl who is going to disappear in a few weeks back to her small town.

How do you realistically sustain a living or lifestyle doing that?

Also, if you think about how much we work nowadays. For most Americans, Our co-workers are our family now. You spend more time at the office than you do at home. If you're in porn, you work a few hours a week at best. Then what? Who or what is your work and social network? Also, can you imagine the Facebook network of a porn star? Do they have their family and their fans co-exist in their network? Can you imagine having to keep your job a secret from the world and all you care about? they are naturally isolated because of the inherent shame and judgment in American society. Although the Kardashians have somehow built a million dollar brand from a sex tape. So they were able to do it somehow -- good for them.

I remember being on a porn set with two girls once. The girls had their rolling luggage with their airline tags still on it. The girls traded stories about their daughters back home, signed their paper work for their scene and then proceded to do their scene with some dude. They were pretty much robots, they were doing it in body only, you could tell they werent into it and just were their for the check. They feigned smiles after the scene, saving face for the producer/actor and dashed for the exits. All very surreal. Buying a sex doll really doesn't seem like such a crazy idea anymore. These girls were essentially just that.
