With all those other presidential hopefuls its time to whittle them down to just a handful before to long. While there is safety in numbers - and it'll keep the president guessing who his opponent will be it doesn't help the electorate who need time to formulate their approach.
The Democrats need a good strong candidate with the entire Democratic machine behind it to help fight of the trump lies, untruths and fear mongering.
trump and fox between then will be the first to print/say/broadcast anything disparaging regardless of being the truth, near the truth or just plain speculation disguised as truth.

The primary season will thin the heard, very quickly. There is no rush, really. The party platform will need to be forged by debate and discussion, not a rush to judgement. The eternal lesson of American Politics is "frontrunners usually fail." It was certainly true with Hillary, and it will prove to be true with Biden and probably Bernie. The president's strategy will be the same regardless of who the nominee is. There are no surprises there. Fox will do what Fox does - again there are no surprises there. Obama won majorities twice in the face of Fox's lies so they are not really influencing anyone except the Trumpers and their ilk. It is called an echo chamber for a reason.

That "Mayor Pete" is polling as well as he is matters a great deal. How other candidates respond will matter a great deal as well. It's a process, it takes time, we have time.
