The sad thing is that racist, bigoted Republicans now have cover and an acceptable reason to reject him.

Right. Though certainly not all Republicans are racists or bigots, there are a number of them who have aligned with the party because the party's platform more closely mirrors their own ideology (and as noted above) the party has in the last decades, flirted with, if not openly courted racist sentiment.

So yes, sadly the accusations against Cain now give those who weren't going to vote for him in the first place a plausible excuse not to. I frankly never thought he stood a snowball's chance in hell. Cain doesn't know. Powell did.

That's easy because the list's so small: ever hear of Bill Weld?

Is he a current presidential Candidate?

If so He doesn't stand a chance because Romney and Co want to amend the constitution to explicitly say "One Man One Woman", and according to that article, he'd have to get Romney's signature first to even get it on the table at the state level.

Marc Pitzke in Der Spiegel on the Republican presidential candidates (the leading ones, anyway): "They lie. They cheat. They exaggerate. They bluster. They say one idiotic, ignorant, outrageous thing after another. They've shown such stark lack of knowledge -- political, economic, geographic, historical -- that they make George W. Bush look like Einstein and even cause their fellow Republicans to cringe."

Wasn't it Ms. Merkel who said the current Republican Party in the US was the Nazi brotherhood in her country? I think I recall it as having been said when Bush was running for his second term.

Of course not, but I didn't think that being a current candidate was required in your original question. Weld was basically chased out of Republican national politics because of his stance of LGBT rights.

There is now some question about Mr. Cain going the distance or dropping out of the race and living to fight another day. I do not agree with his viewpoint on just about everything and consider the man to be another "problem child" in that he is running for an office that he truly does not understand. If the man is thrown off the ticket however it should not be for his personal "moral code" because very few politicians of either party get high marks there. He is an open mouth with little substance. He needs to "go away" but it needs to be based on the false promises he is making and will not be able to deliver on because those promises are not within the scope of the job of the United States Presidency.

Cain goes away and "Eye of Newt" goes up in the polls. The GOP at this point needs to thin it's own field. Things are getting too confusing and the plethora of GOP candidates is going to water down and divide their forces. Obama has when it comes to money out-raised them in funding by a mammoth margin and the Dems are way ahead on campaign funds. It would be to the advantage of the GOP to get rid of the "dead weight" as soon as possible so they have time to begin to "sell" or "market" their candidates. If they are still playing this game by March or April of 2012 they will greatly reduce their own chances for success.

The whole thing can be best summed up as 'a bunch of 5th rate nobodies having their 15 mins of fame..!'
